Software News   Software News : AmiPodder: Amiga Podcast Receiver Public Beta
posted by rhino on 14-May-2005 14:06:10 (3267 reads)
I've just released the first public beta of my Amiga podcast receiver called AmiPodder.

If you've not heard of it before, podcasting is a way of distributing audio programmes (usually in MP3 format) with minimal infrastructure. Using a client like AmiPodder you can subscribe to a podcast feed and then receive each programme as it is published.

AmiPodder is written in AREXX using rxMUI and interfaces with a browser or download manager to download the podcasts and then with AmigaAMP or TuneNet to play them back. It can also sync podcasts to an external device such as a portable MP3 player.

To download AmiPodder and for more information please visit my AmiPodder web page.

Podcasting seems to be all the rage now. We have a local campaign against open-cast mining, and as well as a web site, they distribute news and information by podcasts.

AmiPodder works perfectly - thanks Rhino.

AmiPodder fails to do anything if rexxkuang11.library isn't installed. it would probably be a good idea to add that library to the 'missing libraries' requester that I got the first time I tried to run it.

SR, Sverige Radio (national Radio broadcasting of Sweden) has just started their PodCasting. It's on their website right now. Which would mean Swedish Amigans would get the chance to listen to SR without the use of an actual radio.

Keep the software coming :)

well designed - well thought out podcast-go-getter-type implementation.

highly recommended

I've never heard of this library and can't find it on my OS4 system. AmiPodder works fine though. What does rexxkuang11.library do?

That's strange, AmiPodder doesn't load that library and I don't have it installed on either of my test systems (OS4 on an AmigaOne and OS3.9 on Amithlon), so there must be something else happening on your system.

What made you think that rexxkuang11.library was required?

Thanks

Robert

@rhino

As I understand it, Kuang was a complete add-on pack for AmIRC. So it is more than likely something related to that. I have it here on my OS3.x system, but only because I tested Kuang out ages ago, and preferred to stick to the original layout of AmIRC.

As such, it possible that a MUI class installed is making references to one Kuang may have altered, hence why it's looking for kuangs arexx library.

Hmmm weird, I installed the libraries that amipodder said were missing, then when I ran it nothing happened, tried again, nothing, so I ran snoopdos, ran amipodder again and it failed trying to load rexxkuang11.library, I installed it and tried amipodder again and it worked...

oh well, maybe it was just a temporary ####up somewhere...

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the positive comments.

I have started an AmiPodder mailing list on Yahoo Groups to provide support and so I can more easily announce when new versions are available.
