Hardware News   Hardware News : BareBones DIY EZTower-Z4 kits for the A1200 available for free!
   posted by Eyetech on 19-May-2005 19:11:16 (9773 reads)
We're moving premises this summer and still have around 100 brand new EZTower-Z4 kits to dispose of before then - they just have to go!

These are units for self conversion complete with the custom back and side panels necessary for making it suitable for fitting an A1200. To clear the space we are giving them away free on a first come, first served basis. All we ask is that you pay £12.95 (inc UK VAT) for the fitted ATX power supply unit (plus carriage etc as calculated by our webshop).

Further details are given here

Cheers

Alan

@olegil

Yep, AOL were an ISP in their own right (I think they teamed up with Time-Warner IIRC, some time ago). I was with them for around a fortnight on dialup a couple years backs, but their pings were real slow when wanting to play Day of Defeat... Anyhow, now it is I who digress.

However, without wanting the need to justify my post ( ), all I was merely stating was that I do see in this a good deal. I wouldn't be able to afford it ATM though (P&P to ship to Oz would be a little on the heavy side), as I have just made a somewhat hefty purchase (/me looks to current poll). Don't worry, I am not entirely on the "bandwagon" side of things all the time .

My point is..............

Power Computing Punchinello III with 3 button optical wheel mouse ........
£25.49 + £5.21 for postage = £34.96

Eyetech EZMouse PS2 mouse adapt+2 but mouse ......
£24.95 + £4.00 for postage + £13.00 handling fee = £41.95

Don't take it too personally Alan.

Here is quote I try to remember while browsing the web forums:
Quote:
Usenet is like a herd of performing elephants with diarrhea--massive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind-boggling amounts of excrement when you least expect it.
-- Spafford, Gene

Substitute "Usenet is" for "Web forums are" and you'll feel much better. I know I do.

@treblesix
It's not what you said but how a majority of us read it.

When I read your comment it seemed you were trying to make it look like Eyetech were ripping people off using underhanded extra charges. Whether you intended this reaction or not is irrelevent. The question is, why did I read it that way?

Fact is, I know several places (not Amiga related) that charge for "handling" or whatever you want to call it and they also have a surcharge for card users. That's life. Pointing out such things during a giveaway is suspicious. Add in all the garbage about Mai, 20 questions, etc. and the context is set for a sensitive reaction.

I'm not saying my reaction is correct. I'm just trying to explain why I'm reading your comments as hostile attacks versus a series of innocent questions.

I think u'll find its called paranoia.

Instead of,
"Does this carriage + small order processing charge apply ?
If it does then they are hardly "FREE" now are they"

how about,
"I don't think it is fair to charge an order processing fee on a free item. Why are you charging a processing fee?"

Considering all the other responses to your questions so far I think I'm not alone in interpreting your comments in a hostile context.

@all
Oh well. I'll just shut the heck up now. Sorry guys/gals!

I very probably am wrong on this but Eyetech didnt used to charge a small orders fee back when they were still a company that made most of its money on selling goods to end customers, but it was introduced when they closed that side of operation down.

So to me its quite simple... they no longer routinely sell to end customers, so they dont have the staff on hand to do that kind of work... So when they do sell someone to an end customer, it takes someone else either employed on a temporary basis to handle it, or has to put aside whatever they are doing to cover it... And they need paying so a handling fee gets introduced because they arent selling items in the quantity they would need to be selling them in to afford to pay a member of staff out of a percentage profit from the sold item alone...

Makes perfect sense to me

While I'm not eligible for the offer and I don't need it, I'd just like to say thank you! This is a generous offer and very community minded. There certainly aren't many businesses out there (in any industry) that do this sort of thing.

If you (or anyone else outside the UK) would like one of these towers without the high carriage costs then get on to your local dealer. If he orders a pallet of these then shipping costs are probably around 15-20%% of those quoted on our website for single units.

You wont get it for free -- your dealer needs to make something as well as paying the shipping and possible import duty costs, but it will be much cheaper than paying the carriage costs from the UK.

A pallet takes 27 towers

Hope this helps

Alan

Alan,

Ignore the ass***** -- some people bitch and complain even if they get an AmigaOne for free. Seriously, do we have the most mental people around here or what.
