Software News   Software News : Remote Desktop Client new website
   posted by HammerD on 27-May-2005 16:52:27 (2487 reads)
The Remote Desktop client for Amiga OS 3.x, 4.x and MorphOS has a new home. The new URL is http://www.hd-zone.com.

Visit it here: HD-Zone

Please update your bookmarks.

In addition to the Remote Desktop clients, you can also download MBM-Net, a program I wrote for Windows to gather cpu temperatures and fan speeds from multiple computers over the internet, and also I have put back online my Amiga 68060 pages from the late 1990's. There is information on the Quikpak 68060 accelerator and some other info...enjoy!

Make sure you sign my guestbook if you visit the page! :)

What are the differences (advantages/disadvantages) between this piece of software and TwinVNC?

@PEB

You should check out the latest Total Amiga magazine, there is a good article on Remote Desktop and VNC. Basically they offer the same functionality but:

-I personally find RDesktop faster than VNC.
-Rdesktop offers Audio forwarding to the Amiga.
-Rdesktop only works TO Windows machines.
-VNC is multi-platform - meaning servers are available for multiple OS's.

VNC is more open-platform, whereas Remote Desktop is for connecting to Windows-based computers. Check the web page for more info.

I'm sure others can provide more insight. I don't really use VNC at all.

RDesktop is only for connections against Windows XP PRO, Windows 2003 server, or Windows 2000.
VNC works more or less everywhere.

That fact is probably going to limit me to VNC for now, even though I really like the look of RDesktop.

@tomazkid

'Scuse me if this is a daft question, but are you saying that the VNC program would allow me to have a remote Amiga desktop on my PC? But RDesktop wont?

yes [1]

yes [2]

[1] because there exist VNC servers and clients for a lot of platforms that mostly can be crossed in any combination

[2] because there is no RDP server for AmigaOS
