posted by STRICQ on 9-Oct-2005 3:24:58 (2827 reads)
Ever had a problem getting Envoy to work properly? I have put together an Envoy configuration tutorial. As an additional bonus, an Installation by Hand, tutorial is also included.

I going to have to give this a go. I couldn't get Samba to work even with the tutorial for that one. Hopefully I'll have more luck with this.

Cheers for this, FuZion.

You are certainly not alone in that Samba situation. I hope this is more pleasant.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Well, I got Samba to go. But I wouldn't call it a satisfactory result.

Might as well give this a thrash.

Envoy is better than Samba, if you're networking between Amigas. If I stick a CD in the CD-Rom on my A4000, its icon appears on the workbenches of my A1200 and my AmigaOne at the same time!

Nice work, I will try it out later.

Can you upload it to IntuitionBase so it gets easier to find in the future?

Have I got this right? Envoy isn't free software, it's a commercial release? I've searched on Aminet but can only find patches & 3rd party 'bolt ons'.

FuZion.

Exactly but I don't know who owns the rights. Amiga Inc I think.

But (tell me if I'm wrong) Envoy is an Amiga-only solution. You can't connect to a PC, Linux or whatever like you do with Samba.

Presumably Heinz Wrobl owns the rights. I bought it from Schatztruhe when they still sold it. It can only link Amigas, but thats a good thing because its designed for the Amigas filesystem. BTW, i have both Samba and Envoy on my network. All my Amigas are networked with Envoy, and I use Samba to network with my laptop.

It's also an Amiga to Agima only solution too? Well, that's my plan out the window. guess I'll have to stick with FTP between the A1 & PC for now then.

Cheers Elwood, FuZion.
