Software News   Software News : ApplyPPF and MakePPF ported to AOS4
posted by spotUP on 11-Oct-2005 22:48:09 (3142 reads)
It's me again. Porting/Recompiling was kinda fun, and as I need stuff, i will port stuff. Or, maybe I'll do it just to fill my life with something, or to make OS4 depot a bit more active, we all need that... well, however...

MakePPF and ApplyPPF by Paradox are ported and uploaded to http://www.os4depot.net

ApplyPPF is a tool that applies PPF patch files to .ISO files, and MakePPF is a too to create PPF patch files. Enjoy!

Nice one!

I assume you'll provide Paradox with the sources (if changed) and binaries to let them
host the stuff on their website (and mention AmigaOS4 ) ?

Oh, I normally patch the Winning Eleven-series on my PC... No need to use that anymore, then!

Yea, I tried to contact them via the ppf@paradogs.com addy, but it bounced.
But I will contact them in some way.
I tried to compile the 3.0 versions of ApplyPPF and MakePPF but they gave me some error messages... :/
I then tried to compile them from Linux and it worked. So, I figured I'd try with the crosscompiler, said and done. I followed ZeroHeros guide and installed the AOS4 crosscompiler, and I managed to compile some test programs, they worked. So I tried MakePPF/ApplyPPF 3.0, but I got the same error messages.. :/ Could someone with some C knowledge maybe possible try a make on the 3.0 source, and maybe tell me what's wrong? I am sure it's a simple problem, I just want to learn what it is and how to fix it, this might help me compiling stuff in the future. The 3.0 sources are available from www.paradogs.com, or simply google for 'PPF 3.0 download'... yupp... would really appreciate some help on this oner...

thnx kickah! don't expect any miracles though. i can't really code, the 'ports' i have made a really simple, in rare cases I modify the make file a bit, but in most cases it's small utilities that just requires a 'gcc test.c -o test.exe' kind of thing, simple really, try it on some command line linux/unix/dos sources. good luck! :) it often fails! but I want to learn some basics, I won't give up! This is fun.

ED: typo....

PS. I am trying to compile DosBox now, haha, i bet I won't be lucky, but I am trying atleast. I am in linux now, just did a ./configure to try to get a somewhat useable makefile, and edit it in AOS4, let's see how it goes... I heard this proggy should be just about a straight recompile, but I have my doubts...
(DosBox is a DOS emulator btw, Fast Tracker II, here I come! (Or not, if I don't succeed!))

spotUP, I have DOSBox v0.63 working on my AmigaOS 4 install for >1.5 months now. It's WOS compile sent to me by Fishy_fis and it works pretty well. I gave my word to not spread it, but you can try privatemessaging him or contacting on the IRC for the sources or the compile.
Meanwhile you can try porting KEGS, if you wish. I am too lazy to do the port by myself and lack the time :-/

oh!.. so I guess a recompile of the WOS version will be kind of simplish?... or does it need configure and stuff like that?...
why doesn't he release it?...
