hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Decoding DTS sounds from your DVD files
   posted by Chip on 20-Oct-2005 12:41:54 (5251 reads)
I've just released the second audio decoder codec for AmigaOS4 what can be download from os4depot.

The dca.codec helps all avcodec.library using application (for example: DvPlayer) to be able to decode DTS sounds from mpeg2 streams.

The installation is very easy: copy the dca.codec file from the archive's bin directory to your libs:avcodecs dir and if you already used a player what opened it, execute an 'avail flush ' command.

Enjoy!

Neither, otherwise this library wouldn't have to decode, right?
The decoder decodes to normal PCM audio.

However chip, i've send to you a library.. you should create a shared library for DVplayer of that..

Hey Chip!

Great work!

What about MPEG audio streams? Is these handled internally by DvPlayer?
I ask because I have some older DVD's with this audio type.

Not super important but kind of good if DvPlayer/avcodec supported it.
You know when DVD first came to Europe MPEG and Dolby Digital fought
about becoming default audio standard, Dolby Digital obviously won.
So alot of the earlier DVD's came with MPEG multi channel audio.
DTS came later on.. But DTS is kind of standard today also, for HQ
multi channel audio anyway.

@Chip

Ohh

I have not tried since all my old DVD's are in box
Good to hear it works though, it seems DvPlayer then have almost
full support of DVD audio.

How about DTS 24/96, DTS/ES 6.1, DTS/ES 6.1 Discrete and Dolby Digital EX 7.1?
Are these handled correctly when we get a sound system supporting multi
channel?

Also one other question.. If I playback with digital out setup on my audio card,
does DvPlayer/dca.library/a52.library still decode audio streams?

* Added 7.1 multichannel support. And there was much rejoicing.

2004-07-27 Martin Blom

@Georg

The 7.1 mode is actually an 8-channel PCM mode. IIRC, DvPlayer can decode to that. Only the emu10kx driver supports it though.
