Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Cubic IDE 'Sponsor a Developer' promotion
posted by dietmar on 6-Dec-2005 4:55:12 (5192 reads)
Around this time of year, every year, there is a a special GoldED x-mas promotion. It's usually about selling the latest and greatest version at a ridiculously low price to gifted developers. But this year, it will be a bit different:

Sponsor a development package for a developer! That's right: purchase a state-of-the-art Cubic IDE development package not for yourself but for somebody else. At a ridiculously low price, of course. Make another Amiga developer happy and give him a brand new development package as recognition for good work done. If you are not familiar with creating software and can't program for toffee, sending a development kit to a gifted programmer might be the next best thing to writing software.

Why send Cubic IDE?

Our research team, in extremely scientific experiments, has found out that one reasons why so little new software is written is inappropriate tools: developers are given programs like editpad and spend hours looking for the make button. When told that it's not there, they are confused and demotivated. With Cubic IDE, they will get a powerful tool for development and (eventually) make the software YOU want, in a fraction the time. Ok, I made the last part up. If you REALLY want know why to send Cubic IDE, you can read up on its features here. In a nutshell, it is what Amiga developers want.

What do I get?

For the reduced price of only 49,90 EUR (+p&p), you can sponsor one development package for an Amiga developer. He or she will get the latest and greatest retail version delivered via priority mail. The disk will carry a "Sponsored by " line. If you want to include a written note, such as "Keep on the good work, dude", supply it in any standard file format and a print-out will be included with the gift.
On top of that and as recognition for a selfless deed, I'll throw in a free Cubic IDE CD for you, too. That's how nice I am. Your CD will come without retail packaging and will not be mailed priority, to minimize costs and to make the deal possible.

Any programmer whose software you like, of course. If you can't think of anybody, ask the users in Amiga forums. It would be very helpful if you can identify the beneficiary by a postal address.

So how do I do it?

To send the gift on its way, please go here

Quick! We need a list of deserving developers and we need it now! IF I can swing it I'll be slapping some dosh down on the dotted line (so to speak), but where would I send the gear when it's done?

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

So who is a worthy developer?

I might send one on to a developer who deserves one.

@dietmar

Great idea! My Paypal account currently has enough money in it following the sale of my A1200PPC (*sob*) and I note that you accept Paypal... so I'm all-but set to sponsor someone!

Developers - get posting here to let us know why you want sponsoring, what you've developed and what you plan to develop (unless it's confidential!)...

(Funny how Paypal money doesn't quite seem real - it's dead easy to spend! )

@Chunder

Yes, our money is moving more and more into just some digital numbers.

@all

Btw. i sponsored already the 'other' dev-pack that is in work, but
i would also donate this pack to an other developer.

Maybe someone can setup a quick page where the devs could be listed
and if they have already a sponsor or if they have not yet a sponsor.

I think this is the best way we can atract new and starting devs.

Hmm, maybe true the http://amigadev.amigaworld.net/ site? AmonRe?

I develop the game Total Chaos for AmigaOS.

Writing code for AmigaOS is my full-time obsession.

I love to optimize things to go at the maximum speed allowed by the hardware.

I am open to a sponsorship. Thanks.

Since a few weeks I'm trying now to adapt my old GoldED-6 syntax highlighing for:
- HTML combined with scripting languages like JavaScript, PHP, ASP, HSC
- XML
- Perl combined with HTMLish heredoc strings
- unfinished Rebol
- unfinished LaTex
to the new GoldED-AIX and CubicIDE.

I will now buy a CubicIDE myself, so I can soon

How is it compared to GoldEd AIX? i have GoldEd but never got around to development, mostly due to school work but also the lack of quality tutorials and other development resource.

Varthall/Up Rough is a poor studying italian developer that deserves a kick in the butt in the form of Cubic IDE. He has ported some SDL stuff so far demos, trackers and games. He will probably port MilkyTracker once it's available in SDL form. His skills are constantly improving. He is also working on some Up Rough projects for AOS4. He deserves an IDE.

I just noticed that the news item, which made perfect sense to me very late last night, is very weird indeed. Seems that copy and paste from the HTML page has randomly swapped and duplicated paragraphs. The correct text is below. Sorry about taking up so much space again (can somebody move it from here to up there?). As to coordination: if you sponsor a developer who doesn't need this dev package, I'll get back to you and ask you to name another developer.

--- cut here ---

Very clever idea dietmar. I'm suprised there are such charitable folks. I wish I had more time to develope, but I don't think a few specs of amizilla quite qualifies me. Maybe folks like Oli and Anton are good canidates. But hey, if theres an extra copy about it could be inspirational.

I'm starting to develope on my uA1

though to be honest the line about becomming depressed with no Make button is SO true.

my projects are
XGUIDE - an compressed amigaguide file that uses XML to define the structure of the guide file and it also contains images, and any other files that you want to include and then a transformation algorithm will transform it into different formats (currently HTML) is pre alpha version (paused until after Unified Prefs is finished) as the preference for the Datatype will be view as HTML and view as PDF.
Current script (php) transforms the XML into a web site currently has converted the website idiots guide to Samba to idiots-guide-to-samba.xguide

Unified Prefs - a centric preference system that is open for use by any program to allow developers to ignore the coding of preference systems in thier programs, consists of Library for retriving Preference information and GUI interface for managing preference settings.

Search this site for more info.

If someone wants to sponsor me that would be great both these projects are going to be open source.

so that others can expand on them.

Hey, that sounds cool! Application.library etc. really needs some more people building stuff around it; it could potentially do a lot for the way applications work on AmigaOS in the future, but so far -- probably partly due to the lack of publicized documentation -- not much apart from AmiDock is actually using it.

Err ... I sorta assume that you are actually building this on application.library?

Best regards,

Niels

Why should he care how many packages are sent to the same developer?

I think since this thread is already on the subject, so anyone buying such a package could post it here and to whom so that we could see who has got what.

Any developers who have already bought the package could also mention it here so they don't get another one (sorry jahc)!

I'd agree to sponsor a developer but for it to work I need some personal details like name and adress (not the color of your underwear) for the shipment details so I figure we can do it this way. Anyone who is a developer PM me your details and I will send them off(with payment) to dietmar.

I will post the name/nick (not the details of course) here later when it's done. If only one developer has replied when I check my messages then he will get it, if there are more than one I will choose from those who have answered.

Edit:

Sorry about this, I didn't see that Aldur had already supplied his name info in his post.

So I have now sent off a package to Aldur.

Sorry anyone else who feels they were cheated PM me and tell me why!
