Software News   Software News : TTEngine 6.4
posted by Krashan on 18-Mar-2003 15:54:08 (1652 reads)
TTEngine 6.4 is a bugfix release fixing some errors introduced unfortunately in the previous one. The problem was a request for V38 of mathieeesingtrans.library, while Workbench 3.0 (and 3.1 as well) contains V37. TTEngine failed to initialize in this case and falled into two additional bugs related to freeing resources, causing several Enforcer hits and Gurus.

All three bugs have been fixed in the 6.4 version. You can downolad it at the usual place. Thanks to Halvadjian Georges who reported the bugs and helped with debugging.

Is this the one that allows you to use truetype fonts in any application that uses the standard font requester?

No. You are talking about ttf.library. TTEngine has some features (very good antialiasing with alphablending and gamma correction, direct support for Unicode) making it impossible to narrow down to AmigaOS outline fonts API. That is why TTEngine has its own font requester and only programs written with TTEngine support can make use of it. For example two well known paint and imageprocessing packages FxPaint and PerfectPaint can use TTEngine for text rendering as well as Hollywood - multimedia authoring platform. Full list of apps using TTEngine can be found here.
