Announcement   Announcement : Genesi's PowerProjectCenter for Power.org
   posted by ssolie on 30-Aug-2006 15:33:35 (3181 reads)
PowerProjectCenter

We plan on launching Phase 1 of the site mid-September. We will be doing it here:

OSL

There are some links here: Power.org Discussion
If there are any articles about OS4 or ongoing Amiga development, please submit them and we will include them.

Read more (mod note)...

But, we are thinking about links like these too:

freepascal
amigazeux
Solaris on Power SVN

We plan on featuring all these on the new site, as well as items such as this:

OSNews Article (we have Part 2 almost ready)

Thanks. We are discussing it on PPCZone now.

So Genesi wants to start a web site for PPC developers? It sounds like they can use Xoops for just about all of what there are talking about. $100,000 cost to develope and $10,000 a month to to maintain it?

I wonder how much it cost to start http://utilitybase.com/ and how much it costs to maintain it a month.

Anyone else notice BBRV/Genesi posting a lot all of sudden now that we are a week away from hearing about new hardware The same old games....

It does always seem like their timing is to make a splash just before something happens positive for the Amiga. Perhaps it's smart, but nothing they do really gets me excited. I have no interest in anything they do until they buy a liscense for OS4 (notice I said buy, not steal or get a free bee). Do that and they will get my attention, but not before that happens. It sort of amazes me that they will buy all sorts of useless stuff, but are unwilling to pay for an OS or for developers to develop it.

Power.org is an interesting initiative and Genesi is just one of the many members.

P.S. I hope Genesi doesn't mind I took the initiative to post this as an actual news item (which it is) including a bit of editing to remove the commentary.

You are correct. I think the Power.org initiative is a step in the right direction for the Power line. And there are others involved including IBM and Freescale. See the full list of Power.org corporate members here

Since you posted the items i have to respect your interest SSolie. When I have more time will look closer at the material.

However the boss, and maybe Hyperion among others, might have "issues" with a couple of things

"But, we are thinking about links like these too:
amigazeux"

When I see the name "amigazeux", right away the name brings to mind the program they/He did to bypass the Amiga os4 security and run OS4 on the Peg. It was promoted heavy !

Times may have changed but what happend in the past, still comes forward.

OMG! You seem quite mixed up there, maybe you should download the archive and just read whatever documentation there might be. Please don't post crap like this if you want to have any credibility.

@Interesting
Keep in mind the news item is Genesi's news item. They just forgot to post it as news.

You are probaly little confused. It doesnt let you to run OS4 on Pegasos but allows running OS4 programs on MorphOS (not just on Pegasos but on PowerUp systems). It provides its own OS4 compatible kernel and core libraries but it doesnt let you to boot from OS4 CD But never mind, the forthcoming update is guaranteed to make people angry

Now off to read what this power.org fuss is about.

@itix

Won't help a bit if it can boot OS4 fully on Pegasos. Won't get MorphOS anyway!
So blaaah to you

Running UtilityBase doesn't really cost that much. It's the domain name, the web space, the traffic, the coding of CMS (one could use an off-the-shelf product like I've done on other sites like aros-exeec.org or polarboing.com, but I already had the CMS around for the old AmigaDE only dev site and it's more fun and easier to maintain something you have more control over.) but since it's basically done on mine and others spare time none of us really charge hours for it. Besides most of the contribution is made by external people (forum, articles), so it wouldn't be fair to earn any money out of it either.

If you want to contribute to UtilityBase with money feel free to do so, there's a link on the page itself. (Even BBRV contributed when it was first relaunched with a whopping $10 )

If you want to contribute by other means, like writing articles or moderating forums or whatever take a look at: http://utilitybase.com/article/UtilityBase+needs+your+help maybe some of the guys that were involved in http://amigadev.amigaworld.net would like to join?

You must been smoking really heavy... and I want some of it too if you don't mind... seriously, saying that os4emu was done to bypass AmigaOS 4 security is going way over the roof...
