Software News   Software News : TuneNet Flac Plugin.
   posted by Curty on 7-Nov-2006 20:11:22 (3483 reads)
I have recently uploaded to OS4depot.net a plugin for Tunenet that gives it the capability to play FLAC files.

"FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. FLAC is a popular audio compression codec that is lossless. Unlike lossy codecs such as MP3 and AAC, it does not remove any information from the audio stream and is suitable both for everyday playback and for archiving audio collections."

Thanks to Andrea Palmatè (for the port of LibFLAC).

Thank you Curty for supporting TuneNet with two important plugins.

The link is broken so try this:

Cheers,
Bean.

Well, Another Amiga programmer whom I won't mention, says exactly the same, AmigaOS4 doesn't have the necessary tools for Microphone support.

As a matter of fact, I doubt that there are any Amiga programs that use microphone input.

Mikey,

Just did a test with AHIRecord and Microphone on OS4 and it worked fine.

In TuneNet I'm having problem with the full duplex, that's what I've got to
solve.

Cheers,
Bean.

@Mikey_C

It is probably all a matter of creating drivers for it. If there don't exist hooks for it in the OS, that won't stop someone from writing their own program to provide hooks for it and placing that program up on, say, Aminet or OS4Depot.

There weren't hooks for MIDI in AmigaOS 2.x or 3.x (or, I assume, 4.x), but that didn't stop midi hardware (and included software) from showing up on the Amiga market...

edit: added minor clarification
edit: oops! it didn't auto-add the name of the person I was replying to. fixed.

@Mikey_C

I already replied on IRC, but to make things clear for everyone here.
Microphone works on all cards. On the microA1 however, the 3 mini-jacks on the back are all non-switchable OUTputs. The mic and line in are on headers on the board.

If you want to try mic input, download the demo of AE4, select mic input in the menu Options -> Soundcard in/out and press record. Here you should be able to record just fine while playing back already recorded tracks.

For the CMI cards or microA1, the cmi driver package contains a program 'cmiboost' which boosts the mic input gain with 20dB in case your input is low in volume.

Hope this helps.

Nice to be able to hear more type of audio ;)

Now if only TMPEGUI would have flac support so we could pack our
own flacs ;)

I don't have a microphone to play with, but I use Audio Evoution to convert my audio cassettes to digital all the time. Seems to me a microphone should work just as well...unless I 'm completely misreading the complaint here.

@curty

Nice work! Really nice!
I have a little something for you, that i suspect you'll like.
I can't upload it to os4depot atm, as uploading is disabled atm.
But mail me, and I'll send it to you and we'll see what you can
do with it. =)

A little OT:

Is it possible to write a little program that uses one soundcard for the incoming signal and a different one for the output?

I use 2 SBLive! Digital cards in my Amithlon setup with Martin's driver. I've found I can't use the input if I use the digital output.

Currently, I have one 3.5mm miniplug attached to the input that I leave on my desk to patch into any number of external sources (Satellite Radio, mp3 player, DAT).

Also, the Digital Out and the input are positioned so close together that's it's nearly impossible to have both plugged in at the same time without using some flimsy patch cables.

Beyond a little program to accomplish this, it would be cool to have this option in the AHI prefs (input card, output card).
