   posted by Ferry on 18-Nov-2006 16:52:48 (4265 reads)
The latest nightly build of YAM (18/11/06), finally has a working Spam Filter!

From the Release Notes:

Revision 2426 - (download) (annotate)
Fri Nov 17 22:25:56 2006 UTC (17 hours, 59 minutes ago) by thboeckel
File size: 349677 byte(s)
* misc: Too many changes to list each of them, but finally YAM got a working
spam filter!!

Before you download it, please read the Warning Notice CAREFULLY.

It is still a developer version and as such has some "features" that should be considered carefully, but hey, it's nice to see such a modern feature in an Amiga mailer.

Great! I've allways liked YAM but been using SimpleMain and spamfilter's been one of the reasons. YAM is looking better every day though . Please include HTML support as well! I *will* switch over! Probably ... Both are nice programs so I'm proud and greatfull that there are nice programs produced for AOS.

@Richi
Sort of... it converts HTML into plain text, it can't directly view them. I just display them using Multiview and the HTML datatype if need be (very rare).

@The YAM Team
Nice work. I've just updated my install and am interested to see how well it works.

Chris

nor MOS archive.

@Moxee

go for it.
Its rock stable with a lot of new feutures.
Backup your YAM dir because the 2.5dev have a new mail format (at the first 2.5dev run, it will convert yours to the new format). It worth a try at least.

Any chance of getting YAM switched to support the excellent AISS package? Since the update to include SPAM filtering, my current (customised) images for the buttons are messed up, so could this be an opportunity to support AISS?

I don't get it. What is different about this filter, is it just that it is built-in, rather than a set of filters that you have to make up yourself?

I spend a lot of time maintaining my filters and I would be happy for a learning, self-adjusting filter.

and now no Aos4 version. Probably some last minute issue (i guess).

@tonyw

take alook at the ChangeLog, to see how this spam filter works.

And I think I can guess why. I was able to download the version with an OS4 executable, and although it does have everything setup to use built-in spam filtering, it doesn't work yet.

Opps, sorry...my bad. It does work, but only after a soft-reboot, not after just flushing the old MUI textedit.library.

I spend a lot of time maintaining my filters and I would be happy for a learning, self-adjusting filter.

YAM's new SPAM filter is identical to the one in Thunderbird, i.e. they adapted the Thunderbird filter for YAM.

In other words: Yes, it's a learning and self adjusting filter. There's not much you can adjust, mainly when/if mails should be filtered and if the addressbook acts as a whitelist.

Once it's running, the only interaction required from the user is marking missed SPAM mails as SPAM, or wrongly marked mails as "no SPAM".
