Software News   Software News : The C Book or: No More Excuses Not To Learn C
posted by dietmar on 29-Nov-2006 0:34:27 (3510 reads)
An amended version of the free C Book, originally published by Addison Wesley, is now available as e-book for Amiga developers. This revision is released as part of Cubic IDE and puts a rich source of information at programmers' fingertips. The book covers C90 and C99 on about 100 pages.

Screenshot

The book is integrated into Cubic, bookmarks below source codes provide direct access to chapters and topics.

This book and the Cubic IDE development environment are a great way for you to learn C: You can browse through chapters and try out contained example code directly in Cubic. The small examples in the book can be compiled with the free version of Cubic. The order of topics in this book is similar to the order that is taught in a typical C course.

The C Book is contained in the C/C++ package linked below. You should have the latest free or commercial version of Cubic installed before you download this.

The Learning Edition

To promote this release, the Learning Edition of Cubic (which is a package compiled specifically to learn C) is available at a reduced price of 35 EUR, instead of 50 EUR. It contains The C Book, too. This offer is open for two days only, while supply lasts.

Top marks Dietmar! Your Cubic IDE is a good solid package and additions like this
really do put the icing on the cake.

Excellent!

That's an awesome feature and price. Excellent work.

If one buys the Learner Edition can that apply as a credit towards the full edition later?

Within 90 days, on the basis of goodwill. It's not a regular upgrade path (because it takes 45 min to make/mail a package, due to an elaborate design; that large part of the purchase price which pays for this is used up and can not be credit).

For users who don't want to download the full C/C++ package (with compiler and SDK updates), here is a link to the editor components only, including the book: C/C++ minimal package.

Note however that this may only be installed if your C/C++ installation is on the level of the previous release (the one after the last OS4 SDK update) and that you will miss an vbcc update.

It says on the website this is for AmigaOS3 and MorphOS. Does this integrate at all with OS4? - Lars

From the Website:
"For OS4 development, SDK 51.22 (153 MB) is required, too, and must be placed in the "contributions/os4-sdk/" folder (of the C/C++ package) before it is installed!"

I am happily waiting for it to start my OS4 Development *lol*
