Announcement   Announcement : CygnusEd update!
posted by AndreasM on 4-Dec-2006 11:23:31 (2687 reads)
"I'm currently working on an update, which I hope will be ready before Christmas this year. This update fixes several bugs, adds a bunch of new features and hopefully addresses all the enhancement requests and bug reports posted in this forum.

If there's something still bothering you about CygnusEd, please let me know now, maybe I can still fit it into the update"

Nice to hear work is still being performed on CED. I still use v3.x as my main editor on my A4000. I have been meaning to buy 4.x for a long time.

Are you aware that update concerns version 5.x (not 4.x)?

Hi,

Can you test this...

If you don't have any scroll bar then when using Amiga-k to cut some line(s) there is a grimreaper... when the scroll bar is present there is no problem.

Bye!

What updates/enhancements are we actually talking about ?

I think I already nailed that one. It's an old bug which was present even in CygnusEd 4.

I hope the macro file loading is fixed now.

sometimes when scrolling with the wheel in 2 or more documents at once the contents tend to get mixed up. quite often when I'm editing documents for people I keep the original version in ram, and use it to check my edited version against, but having both loaded at once with the same filename but different souce and wheel scrolling tends to confuse the swan.

Let's see...

- I've updated the search & replace requester. The GUI's now resizable and there are new options for searching now, including regular expression search and replace, a new live search feature which starts searching as soon as you type, an option to limit the search to what you have currently marked and a few more that aren't so spectacular (e.g. ignore accents while searching).

- There are new block manipulation functions, such as one which allows you to cut a whole block of text and insert it somewhere else, preserving the indentation (very handy for cut & paste programming).

- I've fixed a number of bugs in the block cut & paste code which previously could let you lose the option to undo editing operations, in the auto-save code, the shift line code,

- The mouse wheel scrolling now accelerates the longer you turn the wheel

- Added new escape sequences which can show up in the first few lines of the document (e.g. there used to be only :ts=, but now there are plenty more)

- Rewrote much of the code that makes up the core of CygnusEd's buffer management, which in some cases resulted in a speedup of more than 140%

- You can now tell CygnusEd where to put the cursor in a document just loaded from disc. This sort of thing was never implemented before. You can also control the size and placement of the window, which was also never possible before.

I'm slowly working through the long list of enhancements that I have gathered over the years, and especially in the past few months.

Ah, ok. I was thinking more like syntax highlighting and folding
