Internet News   Internet News : Dream17 needs your help
posted by AF on 15-Dec-2006 10:13:24 (2890 reads)
Dream17, with the permission of Team 17 have made available their range of Amiga titles. This means that you can download almost every single Team 17 Amiga title for use either on an Amiga system or an emulator.

But wait, there's more ...

However, at some point next year, Dream17 will once again be moving servers. For the first time since its inception nearly three years ago, someone will have to actually pay for its hosting. This hobby project doesn’t make any profit and its owners have had to bear the costs themselves.

Their plans to help retain Dream17 require your assistance. They would like someone with experience of vector art files to convert their logo into a vector file so that they can begin using it as a basis for all sorts of merchandise. More importantly, they need people to actually start clicking the Paypal "donate" button, which currently only generates £10 worth of donations a year.

Please make a donation, if you want free access to retro titles like Worms – The Directors Cut, Project X, Kingpin, Overdrive, Body Blows, and the Alien Breed series of games.

Wow! That's nice of them.

I wonder if there is any chance of releasing Witchwood or Robin Hood? Or at least letting us have a look at how far they got?

They looked stunning.

Instead of a solicitation for money or food* why not put Google Ads on the site? That'd easily cover the £8 a month or so for a high bandwidth hosting account with someone like 1and1.co.uk

* deleted 'begging' because apparently that's a dirty word!

Begging? They certainly deserves a few bucks for all this work. I will probably donate a few bucks after Christmas.
Look at what happened with back2roots.. the owner apparently got feed up because people leeched like hell without ever giving a donation back. Now that site is gone...

Your constructive comment would be more pleasing without the first three words.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Good news from Ben Paddon of Dream17

I have been absolutely inundated with response to the recent announcement that Dream17 is in need of assistance. I've had tons of emails of support, a few donations (we're just over the £50 mark at the moment), four offers from people offering to host the site for us, and two offers from people who are capable of getting a Vector version of the site logo knocked together for some Dream17 merchandise. I have always been of the impression that interest in this website was minimal, as we don't generally get many comments and the forum is practically dead. But judging by the emails I've had... well, my gob is well and truly smacked.

I think it's safe to say that the future of Dream17 is utterly secure for now, and I thank you for your kind words and donations and so forth. Right now my advice to you is to stop donating. We'll get the logo sorted out sooner rather than later and maybe you'll be able to grab a Dream17 tee-shirt or something before Christmas.

Thanks again for the support - you lot are phenomenal!

What's your problem? Your homepage has a Paypal Donate button on it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The difference is I'm not pretending the money goes to my hosting costs.
