Software News   Software News : Software Sampler "Phonolith" Version 0.5 released
posted by Timo on 18-Mar-2007 19:20:44 (1935 reads)
Phonolith is a software instrument for AmigaOS 4, which plays sampled waveforms. It's usable with Horny and other CAMD based sequencers, or just a connected MIDI keyboard.

New in this release is the "Mixdown" feature to save your songs as AIFF file. This works only with a keyfile. As I won't sell them before version 1.0, you can only get one by registering Horny MIDI Sequencer. This includes a free keyfile for Phonolith.

Features (Version 0.5)

-downmixing to AIFF file (not for lite version)
-receives MIDI notes through camd.library
-mixer unit with volume controls and peak meters
-16 different instruments at once
-ADSR amp envelope for each instrument
-unlimited number of samples for each instrument, for key and velocity ranges
-supports AIFF (16 bit) sample format
-imports Logic EXS24 instruments (only from Macintosh (PPC?))
-ReAction GUI

Planned for 1.0
-mixer unit with panning controls
-WAVE sample support
-better EXS24 import (Intel format...)
-connection to Horny for automatic project loading
-control mixer with MIDI commands
-non-linear volume levels and ADSR-release

This is great program to use with Horny. Looking forward to WAV loading and support for volume levels.

WAV support will come in the next release, because I need it too
Volume levels are already possible, but they are still linear, which is not really audio-like.

Sounds great will try this out later.

BTW I tried out the previous version, and whilst it seemed to work well overall I noticed one prblem.

When Phonolith was on, mouse behaviour was very odd, particulary double clicking, If I double clicked on an icon to start aproogram if often wouldn't work unless I doubleclicked slowly and then the would be a pause before prgram lauch, any ideas on what might cause that?

Just use an appropriate scale on the sliders to get round it for now?

@broadblues

Yes, I have noticed this too. I think, it's because the system is a little bit overloaded. I will try some task priority things...

@ Frags

At the moment, the sliders have a range from 0 to 127, which will be used as percent value (0% - 127%). But it should use a exponential scale or something...
And the sliders are still changing the volume at releasing only. This must be changed too of course.
