Software News   Software News : Digital Universe 1.5 (OS4) Demo Version Released
   posted by BillE on 28-Jun-2007 13:10:20 (2689 reads)
A Demonstration Version of SYZYGY's "The Digital Universe" v 1.5 for Amiga OS4 has been uploaded to OS4Depot - and hopefully later to Aminet but that is playing up at the moment.

This is a demo of the latest work in progress, the full version will be available in the not too distant future.

For further information visit http://www.digitaluniverse.org.uk

The demo has the following restrictions
and limitations over the registered version:

1. Stars, galaxies, nebulae, and clusters are only shown
in a square from 4 to 7 hours right ascension and -15 to
15 degrees declination. This roughly covers the region
occupied by the constellation of Orion, and is visible
from both the northern and southern hemispheres.

2. The demo version will not allow you to simulate a view of
the night sky later than November 5, 2007 nor before
January 1, 2005.

3. Most of the hypertext encyclopedia of astronomy has been
removed. The exceptions, which remain with this demo
package include:
- the online help on how to use the software
- the description and pictures for the Sun
- the description and pictures for M42 (The Great Orion
Nebula), M43, M78, IC 434 (background illumination for
the Horsehead Nebula), and Betelgeuse - objects which
are located in the region defined by restriction # 1.

IMPORTANT NOTE

This Demo Version of The Digital Universe v1.50 will NOT conflict
with nor cause any operational problems if you already have the
older 68k version 1.03 installed. In fact it is even possible to
run both versions at the same time should you so wish.

Trying out this demo will not lock you into an irreversible
upgrade path !

The URL for OS4 Depot is now available, the demo was just sitting in the uploads section before.

The full address is now:
http://os4depot.net/share/utility/scientific/dudemo.lha

Thanks to a very quick response to my query the kind people at Aminet have uploaded the file for me. The Aminet URL is
http://aminet.net/package/misc/sci/dudemo

Sounds like a great little niche app! We need more niche apps! This news almost makes me want to fix RockBEAT up and make it sound decent..

@BillE

Well done Bill. Very fast on my micro - big improvement over the 68k version. I like the MUI changes too for screens & prefs. Nice to be able to see the ecliptic. Looking forward to the full release so that I can upgrade.
