Software News   Software News : APC&TCP releases UVW
posted by AndreasM on 16-Jul-2007 8:25:31 (2860 reads)
After a long time we have finally made it. Ultra Violent Worlds (UVW) is available at the online shop of the APC/TCP now.

We work directly with the programmer and receive the original Vorlon CDs directly from Australia.

For more information about the game and some screenshots visit: http://www.apc-tcp.de/support/0082.php

Other similar projects are already in the works.

If a programmer wanting to rerelease a program or having written a new new one reads this please drop an email at Andreas@apc-tcp.de.

This is an old game and not one you wished to see again (sorry apc-tcp)..

My favourite shooter is Battle Squadron and using that as reference (100%) this IMHO scores max. 35% overall. Dunno if the game has been improved over the years since I tried it but I really hope so. Sorry for sounding so negative but this game was so disappointing.

OT: As a positive sidenote I really enjoyed the English Amiga Future magazine, I hope every former TA reader subscribes, thanks for a great magazine.

i bought this one a while back (probably 7 years ago?) and heh on the cd there is a 4mb file only more or less anyway, the pc version was supposed to be on the cd too with cdda aswell, i couldnt see that data or music...

So is this the CDDA version?, the amiga version use CDDA or?.

playing games with no music sucks, other than that the game is pretty much unfinished, or atleast that was my impression back then.

cheers

ps: english mag is out now?? damn i missed that news item.

$addam: well to put it nicely, graphics means almost nothing in a game (or rather 30-40% of the game)

yeah i know gfx doesnt mean everything (and this game is ugly by modern standards, so i know it very well:)
but it looks like a decent shump. i like them. (i've got a dreamcast:) and one of my favorite in the genre is banshee. i liked swiv back in the days. uvw differs from them in what in gameplay?

and my name is with 3d please! thanks!:)

$adddam:

i love my dreamcast too aswell as my saturn, they have an serious amount of shooters, especially vertical ones.

What this game is missing is gameplay and indeed the graphics aint that bad , atleast not when standing still, there is no slow downs or such, atleast not for the little time i have played it...

problem as i said, is playbility and the fact that you have some very annoying sfx and the shooting gets tedious after a few minutes :(

Have a go at the demo, its free and available on the website...it might change your opinion or it might even want you to buy it.

Banshee is one of the best shooters around, its in the same group as hybris and battle squadron , infact there is quite alot of decent ones on Amiga (like Lethal Excess)....

on a side note, i found APANO SIN to be one of the more playable shooters of the later Amiga games, it was released in 2000 or so and its an very old game , well rather it took like 10 years to make it , anyway it might be a tad boring in the start but eventually it kicks off and then it shows potential and gives quite a bit too.

Raiden on Amiga was horrible, they scrapped it before they even finished it but the developer(s) released what they had not very long ago.

Crossfire 2 , not exactly a vertical one but its a free roam one, simmilar to Armada on DC and imo one heck of game, love it to bits (Crossfire2 came in 2002 if i remeber correct).

Point is, there is many better alternatives to UVW, i hoped the best for the game and was extremely let down by it, controls are loose and sloppy, detection on objects are far from good and the graphics blend badly to the rest.

If you like horizontal shooters then check out wendetta 2175 (96), thats a pretty decent one, its far too easy but while it lasts its fun and the 2 player option is quite fun aswell.

pssst: i am a shoot em up fanatic, i buy consoles for games like theese and indeed there is alot of crappy ones on consoles like PS2 and DC etc but there are some gems inbetween still even though its a dying breed (shoot em ups).

ppppsssst: if you got a psp, try the simplist game Platypus, really nice game if you play it for a while, especially the 1 life game mode :).
