Software News   Software News : New software releases by OnyxSoft
   posted by Deniil715 on 27-Jul-2007 14:38:54 (4410 reads)
OnyxSoft is releasing a full 6 software updates!

Click updated programs: for more info

Annotate v2.6 - (OS4) A very comprehensive text editor with a lot of functions. These are the major updates since the public release v2.5: Syntax highlighting with current support for C/C++, Amiga-E, AmigaGuide and XML. Unlimited Undo/Redo. Ann can remember where in a file you last edited and scroll there when the file is opened. Double/tripple-click to select word, syntactic phrase, line or bracket contents. Plus a few bugfixes since v2.5.3.

AllKeys v2.2 - (OS4,MOS) Hotkey program supporting most multimedia-keys and mousebuttons. Fixed a problem with the ARexx command being split between the ARexx command and CLI command fields.

BackUp v1.45 - (68k) Backup program that mirrors a directory structure. Fixed the annoying hit (=Grim Reaper on OS4) when starting the program.

DRemind v1.71 - (68k) Reminder program with Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly/Single/Day- or Time interval reminds which will show as a small window and/or execute a file or Arexx command. Fixed a couple of more bugs regarding the prefs file and other things. You may get a warning if you have made reminds using DRemindPrefs v2.70.

DECH v1.48 - (68k) A small GUI for CLI-only compilers such as ec, gcc, vbcc, make, etc. Now using the system font also for the main GUI. Fixed the annoying hit (=Grim Reaper on OS4) when opening any of the config windows sometimes.

JoinSplitter v1.31 - (68k) Split and join files with a GUI. Fixed the annoying hit (=Grim Reaper on OS4) when starting the program.

This is mainly a maintenance update with a lot of bug fixes all over. The exception is Annotate which has got the biggest improvements ever between v2.5-v2.6.

Note: The OnyxSoft homepage will be updated shortly. The files on the page are the new ones (even if it won't look like that!), but the visuals will be updated shortly.

Remember: The more you nag about bugs or lack of features, the more frequent the updates will come!!

Great software!! I'm ditching my old quick format + copy script.

First backup took 17 minutes.. about the same as what my old script did. Then the 2nd backup immediately after, there were no new files to do.. the backup completed in 26 seconds. :)

if we really have to nag ...

Any chance that backup is getting a sheduler and can be placed in WBstartup and do a weekly ( or whatever interval ) backup without me having to look to it ? ... also compression with password would be cool and burning to DVD/CD but maybe that is asking a little to much , but I would push that paypal button more often in that case.

Actually, I use DRemind as a scheduler for BackUp

Compression is a thing of the past IMO. here is my pro/con list for compression:
Pro: Things take less space.
Con: Only small things like documents and programs get smaller, not the things that really take much room, like movies and music.
Con: One single bit-error may cause the entire file or backup to be un-decomressable.
Con: It takes time.

Buring to CD/DVD..? Ehm, not really what I made this program for

But keep the suggestions coming!

- Does your Dremind automate the backup ? If yes how?
- Ok no compression, encryption maybe ?
- A script that starts up cdburning software ( with Arexx ? ) and let's you burn it directly to Cdrom ?

1.
DRemind is a reminder program that can be set to remind a specific time(and date) and/or at startup: every day/every week/every month/every year/at specific time intervals/at specific day intervals.

A remind is normally a window popping up, but it can also be to run a program and/or execute an arexx script.

I have a remind executing BackUp with CLI arguments for each backup I make (because I like them to be made with different intervals).

2.
Encryption is a possibility. I'll look into it. Not sure what kind of algorith I should use though... One of the key things with BackUp was that it should be possible to recover single files without the need to use the backup program. Also, in case of a disaster (that's why we make backups, right!?) the files should be recoverable easily.

3.
Use DRemind
