sorry for little troling, but i just curios: for what need to buy hardware for 500$ with *nix, if anyone just can buy linux for any other hardware for 50$ ? I think users will buyt it by this really big pricce, only in fact of OS4 (and maybe morphos on it). While no os4/mos here, it will be not have too much luck with sales.

I would order once OS4 is available on it. Until that it`s just an expensive board for embedded systems with linux.

Anyway, great news that it`s available.

I've read a few places that this motherboard runs just fine without any fans. and due to it's low computing power it also draws less power (w), meaning you might be able to use a fan-less PSU. so this can essentially be set up as a rig without any moving parts. Now that is ideal for many industrial locations where fans need heavy filtering not to fill a computer with oily dust or other harmful particles.

Anyone confirm or debunk(properly, not by saying stfu nooob !!!!11 ) my theory please?

As most people would say; I'd consider buying one, if OS4 is released for it. There's just too much uncertainty. Another Catch22.

$700 in US dollars. Tack on shipping and OS4 (if/when it becomes available) and your looking at well over $800 USD

Sucks to be American right now...

Same here. The only reason to buy a SAM440 without OS4 would be to build a set-top box, its design makes it very good for that sort of thing. However, the new Windows Media Center is so much better than anything I could find for Linux, that a Via Epia motherboard ends up being a better deal (sure, you need to buy Windows too, but since the SAM is more expensive than the VIA the price difference is not that much - shop around and it may even end up being a bit cheaper). Plus, I've seen the Linux HTPC HOWTO - I have better things to do with my time

ΙΜΗΟ its price is over the top for the normal end user.

I don't know anyone particullarly who is willing to buy a 667 Mhz, 512 Ram, 80 GB HD with a poor onboard GFX, just to run Linux for 800 euros!

With the same amount of money someone can buy a very neat x86 system.

BUT all the above changes if you are an Amiga user AND this board supports OS4!

Usually us Brits pay much more than Americans for new technoloy. Hopefully ACube will get a large orders from the embeded client, which will help drive thr price down for us.
Genesi managed it with Efika, although that was a cheaper and less complictaed design, which brings me onto something else.
ACube have a lite version of Sam440 on their roadmap, this will probably cut out certain features such as the FPGA and flash device controller. I think perhaps it's time to contact ACube and see if they give some clarification on this.

@Foody

Hmm inferior compared to your beloved classics or to the real world?
You know it's pretty much better than the µA1-C on everything except raw
CPU power? The 440EP CPU isn't that much worse than a 750 G3 when
you look at the whole system including memory speed etc.

But a cheap G5 dual core 2.5GHz system would be alot nicer of course.

@thread

~800¤ was about 200¤ too much for the complete system.
It thought they'd get the best board down to 350-380¤ without OS4..
So it seems I will not be buying this board afterall. Sad.

This is good news. Now, where's OS4 for it?

Port AROS to SAM bounty:

http://thenostromo.com/teamaros2/index.php?number=60

Hopefully someone with the skills will take up the above job.

Has anyone approached the MorphOS team to see if this is something they might want to port to after they are done with 2.0 for Efika?

If we could get 2 out of 3 of our OS' running native that would help a lot I would think since OS4 for it is on hold.
