Software News   Software News : AVD Development Halted Indefinitely
   posted by BinoX on 8-Nov-2007 18:48:49 (4946 reads)
AVD development had been halted for an undetermined length of time.

The following is copied from the Bit by Bit Software Group Website:

November 7th, 2007:
Purchase plan options and sponsorship programs have been CLOSED.
I have accepted a full time position with another company which is going to demand all of my time for the foreseeable future. Since I can not at this time predict when development on the AVD/FreeAVD projects will be able to continue, I have decided to close out all pre-release payment plans and FreeAVD sponsorship programs, effective immediately.

It is my firm intention to satisfactorily resolve the delivery of any and all pre-purchased software. Please remain patient for a while longer as I work through this process. I will hopefully be able to provide more information in the near future. THIS IS NOT THE END.

AS ALWAYS I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE AMIGA COMMUNITY FOR THEIR
TREMENDOUS SUPPORT OF THIS EFFORT!

That's a real shame, although understandable given the current situation.

Obviously a bit of disappointment here, but I also understand that life often interferes. We make plans in very good faith only to have those plans interrupted by reality. I do hope development will continue.

Unerstandable, we'll see more of this kind the longer the
court case takes.

Anyway, Good Luck on your job.

Good luck with the new job!

Very understandable with this courtcase and lack of hardware. Hopefully it will change for the better when the war between Hyperion and Amiga is over (if ever..).

How much before all the OS4 hardware and software get rusted?

Amiga way of doing a business: grab the money then say "bye, bye".

A little unfair I think, Krashan. I doubt the money he has "grabbed" has amounted to anywhere near the amount he could have made staying in full time employment rather than trying to support the Amigas progress. Still, I could be wrong. Is there huge amounts of money to be made in creating development tools for AmigaOS 4 anyone?

Sad, but not surprising. I hope that those who pre-payed, or used the 'purchase plans' & 'sponsorship' do not feel cheated. And hopefully he can still find the time to finish AVD or pass it on to someone who can.

@Krashan

Nonsense.

How much could he have made anyway? At the moment there is no point in Amiga OS 4 business because the court case could go anyway. So don't go blaming him for stopping his efforts.

Go blame Amiga Inc. for their shell game. There you will find the guilty party.

I consider this a big loss. Jamie was developing an important piece of software, in a very promising way.

Andrea

@Krashan

Jamie left full time employment and used his savings in order to set up Bit By Bit.

@Jamie

Good luck in your new position, I hope have time to continue AVD in the future.

@afxgroup

He's not planning to just walk away from AVD and never get back to it.

I'd like to know that also. I donated the full and I am not bitching.

Good luck Jamie.
