| Nah... No moving... But we will be asking the AROS team to PORT Amiga OS 4.0 or better to X86 platform for a developers corner type of project.
AROS has built up experience and know how to make Amiga OS4.0 on X86 a reality. Even if it starts of with emulation or even better a VM (Virtual Machine)
With the 4 core and 8 core and 16 core and 32 core PPC's around the corner no Amiga Fan will care, but it might increase the install base for the sake of expanding. _________________ Quote:

Yeah right. At least somebody gets the point. _________________ AmigaOS or MorphOS on x86 would sell orders of magnitude more than the current, hardware-intensive solutions. And they'd go faster.-- D.Haynie

So the AROS team got the source code to OS4 and OS5? This certanly makes an interesting change to the court case. Looks like the AROS team snapped it up from both of them! |

I'd prefer it if that didn't happen (from a selfish user point-of-view). If AROS developers work on the original AmigaOS 4.0 source code that makes it difficult for them to go back to AROS and with a small developer base that could be devastating. Even if their contributions were totally legal and not based on OS 4 code, there's been too many arguments and incriminations in the community already!

Why that? Do you think the OS 4 team is too stupid for that? Well thank you very much. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| I don't really get it.
As far as I can tell AROS x64 contains absolutely no improvements over the 32 bit version. And as far as I'm aware all x64 cpus can switch into 32-bit mode. So what's the advantage of this version of AROS?
Don't get me wrong I'm a big AROS fan and once the UAE integration and web browser have been completed I may well consider installing it, but this particular fork of the project seems a little bit like a waste of time unless I'm missing something! |

| AROS will be a little faster and the source has a lot fewer bugs I think. Because some bugs only appear on 64bit. And most important, all core Libraries are 64 bit now. One day this kernel wil be replaced by a better one which will introduce things like (limited) memory Protection.

Licensing issues aside, I didn't see this one coming up on the cards. |
