Software News   Software News : YAM 2.5 released
posted by damato on 23-Dec-2007 1:28:16 (5624 reads)
The YAM (Yet Another Mailer) open source development team is pleased to announce the immediate release of its stable 2.5 version. After nearly 5 years of constant, restless development, the 2.5 version is the currently most stable and most advanced version of the famous Amiga e-mail suite.

The 2.5 version, apart from very important bug fixes, comes with a largely enhanced user interface with new capabilities like, e.g. an embedded read pane functionality to directly read e-mails without having to open separate read windows. Or even a new search bar allows to quickly search for e-mails or sort them according to predefined categories. Furthermore, YAM was largely reworked internally to perform not only more securely and less cumbersomely. It also comes with important technical enhancements like non-blocking I/O based socket connections allowing the GUI to become more responsive or improved compatibility to common internet standards (RFC). In addition, large internal reworks were performed to be able to implement features like IMAP support or native HTML mail display in one of the next versions.

Therefore, we are indeed very happy to supply you this stable 2.5 release not only right before Christmas, but also right before we are going to start on working on some more interesting things in the upcoming year.

Please download the latest version of YAM from:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13560

Also have a look at the official YAM homepage for more updates on the 2.5 release:
http://www.yam.ch/

Enjoy the 2.5 version and happy yamming...
Your YAM Open Source Team

@retro

/sarcasm on
Yes, that definitely helps!! Just complaining without any further information, like crashlogs, etc.
/sarcasm off

If you don't give us a hint what crashes when and where then I must say: sorry, but you are alone...

I also got a DSI error while converting my old mail folders. Several of them worked fine, then suddenly I got the error on about the 5th folder. I attempted to attach GDB, but it found no debug symbols, and YAM was unresponsive at that point. Sorry there is not more information, but I have no more folders to convert, so I cannot reproduce the error.

Assuming the machine did not lock up, it helps to add the following lines to startup-sequence after:

; $VER: Startup-Sequence 52.5 (03.07.2007)

kdebug "debuglevel 0" >NIL:
kdebug "console memory" >NIL:

Then, when only one app is unresponsive, open shell and type "dumpdebugbuffer > [path to file]. Sometimes you can capture a helpful bit this way.

Hi,
Can anyone point me to a FAQ on how to make this wonderful program work with GMail?
Thanks,

yam question:

- how accelerate the gfx loading on YAM (during start and when the window is opened) on aos3 ???

loading here with 1260 and voodoo3/p96 is 50 seconds. I dont want to imagine YAM 2.5 on AGA or 68030. Honestly, I don't recommand YAM on slow amiga on on AGA. Sorry to said that.

Hope mason will made a theme with just less colors or maybe with GFX like on the old official YAM version.

- french catalogs (and general translations for others langages) soon planned ???

I will switch to old YAM and wait a theme with less colors and a french translation. Damned, a good program but slow on classics amiga just only because lots of .PNG loaded one by one with warpPNG that give a long time for opening the YAM window

bye

Cool! I've been using the beta version for years.

Great program!

Great to see a new version of YAM - it has been eagerly awaited

Two problems, though:
- Whenever I open the mail window (read or edit) I get a requester stating that TextEditor.mcc has invalid config and will use defaults. Rather annoying, and I can't find TextEditor.mcc prefs anywhere - not even in MUI prefs "External" section. Hints are welcome!

- I can't change to the AISS look of YAM. It can't find the image files. Does this require AISS to work?

Anyway, thanks for the update!

Regards
Thomas
