These could sell by the bucket load if marketed correctly!

My thoughts exactly - ACube need a decent PR person. A new site just for Minimig and go round sending out review copies to trendy guys mags and you will get a decent clutch of sales.

Leave it as it is though with a motherboard only system available and a website that isn't geared to what the Minimig is ie - relive the happy days with a compact A500 and a smart card reader for ADFs - and this will be a fine product that fails to sell.

I think network support is needed before i go for one.

You don't need it - just use the smart card. This isn't a full blown desktop replacement. By avoiding adding too many peripherals keeps the cost down and focuses the Minimig to what it is - a very fine retro gaming tool.

Also, has it got TV-Out or am I missing something?

Apparently it has (and I'm taking this from Wikipedia here) - 'HD15F VGA video (which can output PAL compatible signals to connect to SCART).'

So I suppose you need a VGA to SCART connector? Never heard of that before but it looks like it is possible. This products needs TV out in order for it to sell.

It would be great if it had a cool custom Amiga case and was marketed correctly.

This is promising. So basically either connect it straight to a SVGA Monitor or using some kind of adapter to the telly.

Brilliant!

Or you use an LCD-TV with VGA input.

1) Yes, Power: +5VDC (approx 100mA without mouse)
2) Yes, it has dual 9-pin joystick port (someone correct if I am wrong here)
3) I think so...not sure
4) Should work without keyboard (you can connect pc keyboard and mouse PS2)
5) No, not that I know of but someone is working on a case for it.

In one of the PC mags earlier this year, there was an article on how to select PAL TV values on a Radeon Graphics card, so that the VGA plug could output TV compatible signals. From what I rememebr on the earlier MiniMig info, it has a Physical, 3 pin, one header jumper, for selecting betwen 15khz, TV, and 31 (?) khz, VGA.

Of course, if your using any half decent LCD "TV" from the last few years, your using a PC Monitor. There is no such thing as an LCD "TV, only PC monitors, that happen to have tuning and scaling functions Added. Remember the old days when a TV was usd because it was Cheaper than a TV?.. Had a look at the relative prices of Tvs and Monitors recently?

Other intresting things.. 5 volts at 100mA.. you mean, Less than the 500mA available from a USB port from a wind up charger, or PC port?

Also, have you looked at that board, and tried to compare it with historical references? Rom, Ram, CPU, IO?. Isnt it strange how much it looks like the ZX81, the first true massproduced, Cheap, home computer?

If it does as hoped and sells overall in impressive numbers, wouldnt this also make the MiniMig, the First of the Next Generation Virtual computers? Take a circuit board, fill it with FPGAs, program in whatever computer chipset you wish. Rinse, repeat.

You have to be able to start somewhere.

Its just a pity, that unlike ZX81, 1K chess, you cant run the compiler and associated code on the MiniMig, so you can actually program itself. 8(

Hot Damn, they Finally did it.. @.@

Congratulations to ACube, the only company to actually keep their promises, hardware and software wise.

I have a question:

Will they be able to use the name Amiga?

If not I am thinking Minimig 500, that would be appropriate.

What this really needs, in order to succeed beyond the scope of the three communities (mos, aos, aros) is to be sold fully assembled, retail. meaning: WITH ROM in a neat box and all needed cables supplied. It should also feature a few sample games as well as a way of buying more games by the truckload. no ####ty single games but bundles. Ease of use and all of that.

anyway, this is a great thing and I might buy one, once I figure out what other stuff to get to be able to run it. (box and cables etc).

its no hardship, its just impossible if you dont have a memory card reader, and dont intend to get one.

i dont want the network for browsing! i want it to copy over adf's. dvd players have network connectors for playing divx/xvid over a network, that is what im on about.

i think its 100% likely that the cheap price is for the board alone, and then extra if you want it in a case with memory card and power supply. they might even supply it with keyboard and mice and a old style joystick!

im sure mid-jan the full price list will be out, so you can get your fully assembled minimig with accessories.

£10? ouch.. what was it?.. solid gold?.. I got mine from PoundLand 8) for £1.

The problem Im looking at though, is that the MiniMig uses an MMC slot, and not an SD slot. Mobile phones, Cameras use SD cards. You can now buy an 2 Gig SD card with WiFi interface for as little as £20. You want a network?.. stick a WiFi SD card in the slot. Pity there isnt that £12.50 dual head USB2.0 chip on the MiniMig board, it has Fat32 file system on board and parrallel, serial, SPI and I2C interfaces I beleive.. massstorage class, HID and other built in. stick a bluetooth pen in the port, and youre fully wireless. Well, thats if you can get a WiFi USB VGA graphics card. 8)

Think what you can buy for the PC, and see what it can do for the MiniMig..

RodTerl

You think MiniMig on FPGA is good. You should see what dual 8800GTX on LMRAM will be like in a decade time.

Now all we need is one on a PCI card so us Pegaos and AmigaOne users can have an Amiga chipset.

I think the goal of the minimig is to be an A500 reproduction not a new computer.

I thought SD card would have been a good idea too, although my ignorance made me think that MMC were sd card! D'OH!
