This is great news!

The SAM440 is ideal for running AROS!

Now.... to buy a ACube Minimig or SAM or both!

Now the question remains, which one will be first to show up on the SAM - AROS or OS4? The race is open! My bets are on AROS, because it displays traces of a working development model and an enouraging absence of dysfunctional business practises.

@Oppressor

Would a port od AROS to SAM440 result in many new buyers of the board? I guess not.
Only with OS4 things could be different, but that is not going to happen in 2008.

In the end, it's good for the board and good for AROS, and it may even alleviate the pains of people buying the board with the shady prospect of OS4 ever being released for it.

This may sound like a chance for good PR for AROS, but on a second thought, AROS supporters should rather concentrate on a profile and direction of their own and reject this bounty as ill-fated. Is it really worth the effort to maintain a PPC port? On the other hand, it's their playground and they can do with it what they like.

I see a faint chance of OS4 appearing inofficially on the SAM in 2008, especially as I could imagine this as part of a scorched earth tactic. It would be funny to see that AROS would be officially supported while OS4 was traded underhandedly.

I sure wouldn't be that negative, AROS is indeed developing into a fine community OS and would be an asset to SAM440 as it will be to the EFIKA. With Traveller and UAE Integration in active developement, I'd say this is what alot of folks have been looking for. Modern PPC hardware options with a Community OS that they can be proud of. Cheer up, 2008 looks like it's going to be a GREAT year.

I disagree, I for one would be purchasing a SAM440 based solely on the availability of AROS for that board.

I hate being positive.
I'd hate to say I told you so.
I knew it.
GR8.

Its more than welcome in my books considering I have a SAM 440 PPC 677Mhz 512MB RAM.
Well Done AROS

I also think Amiga OS4 has a very good chance of being available on ACubes SAM
in the very near future. I hope this is part of the Hyperion Spacial Treat.

Cause I've been drooling over ACK / AInc products. That would be the icing for 2008.
Hurry up an deliver so I can buy them and then bag the negative aspects of the design, while keeping the best parts a secret.

Really guys.. Why would ANYONE buy a PPC board for running AROS when the have
(finally) gotten rid of the of it and moved x86????

Personally I would only buy a PPC board if I had to (like for OS4 or MOS).

@Dammy

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wont both UAE integration and Traveller be available for x86 BEFORE it's available for Sam?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of AROS and once Traveler & UAE are complete I'll be more than happy to give it a whirl on my Dual Core Inspiron laptop. I won't be hurrying to buy an overpriced PPC board to do the same, less portable, job though!

I'm sure that the port of AROS to Sam will increase sales of the board, to some semi-hard-core PPC fans who couldn't quite bring themselves to part with the cash when it was just a linux board. but I'll be willing to bet that I'll be able to count those sales on the fingers of one hand.
