   posted by Petah on 12-Jan-2008 20:45:04 (3500 reads)
The original SimCity source code has finally been made public, published under the GPL license. For copyright reasons, all references to the orginal trademark still held by Maxis has been replaced and the project is now known as Micropolis. The source code tar-archive is a 7,32 MB download currently available from DonHopkins.com. Technically inclined users may want to read a few notes about the code's current status in this blog entry.

Hemm the sourcecode is for a Linux version Copyright (C) 2002 based on TK/TCL.

Most likely lots of work replacing all GUI stuff, but what do I know, I have not even tried.

Lovely, and unexpected! I'd love to see a native OS4 version, too.

@Cass:

Lincity is pretty slow on my OS4 Classic system and freeze it time to time, so this alternative is not an option for me

Did anyone manage to get Micropolis to run on any platform yet? I can't seem to get it to run here..

Maybe I'm a bit naive but I think if SimCity was originally released on the C64 then I think a clever programmer could make it run well on an Amiga. I will say that I'm not a clever programmer so what do I know?
