Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Gary Gygax Died at 69. He created D&D!
posted by Raffaele on 5-Mar-2008 8:35:15 (3443 reads)
Gary Gygax was one of the two people who created Dungeons & Dragons, the first best seller in Fantasy RPG.

Entire generations of people played his game!

D&D inspired the creations of dozens of videogames, starting from Atari 2600 and Intellivision consoles upto Amiga computers!

So sad news... the father of RPGs has died...
RPGs have been a good part of my life and still now, even if married, are ain important bit of my free time.

Me and other players had a pizza with him during a Con in Modena some years ago and he was a very brilliant man, still young inside and willing to stay young in company of young minded people. He had an unique way of telling stories and a good philosophy about balancing RPG and real life. A true Master he was...

For who do not play pen&paper RPGs try to figure out a videogaming world without Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Baldur's Gate, Diablo, Oblivion, Gothic, ADOM, Ultima...

So, dear Gary, if you ever be able to read bits'n'bytes a very big THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN YOUR LIFE from the deep of my heart, the world I know would not have been the same wiyhout you being among us.

Sad news. Played some of his games on the Intellivision.
May he rest in peace. All my sympathies to his family and friends.

Sad, RIP . . . Enjoyed your work . . .

D&D was fun even on paper, but I enjoyed the computer games more. On Pencil and Paper, I preferred D&D with the Arduin add-on's.

I do not apprecciate RPG fantasy games...

But I respect the man and the genius.

My condolences to the family.

May he rest in peace!

I worked for Gary through Troll Lord Games as a writer, and met him on many occasions. He was a swell guy and will be missed. Fire up some Pools of Radiance on his behalf.

Gary Gygax did for games what Jay Miner did for computing. He took his interest to a whole new level by creating something completely new, and set a new standard which is still used as a benchmark. Like Jay, he didn't work alone, but he became the icon because of his passion.

The man was a genius.

Sad to hear that. 69 is still young to die. Unfortunetly I've never played D & Ds on any computer or consoles...but I use to watch the Saturday morning cartoons way back in the early 80's It was my favorite. I've also saw the movie. So sad when people die so young:(

Sad to hear the news

I never really got into D&D although I appreciate that it was and still is very popular. I first came across a text only computer version of D&D in the early 80's and remember several of my work colleagues being really hooked.

Anyway R.I.P. Gary.

Rest In Peace Gary.

I'm a RPG fan, me and the lads still play and I'm currently DM. His dream and vision started it all, my Tuesday nights have never been the same since I discovered D&D.

Rude!

Sad news indeed.
Was into D&D as a youngster and still like computer RPG games now.
I also managed to get my hands on a fantasy book written by Gary, was very good.
