| It's all amazing but this is the best bit:
Quote:
* New KX Light, bootable from CD and with HD installation option (featuring live updates) and extended hardware support |
It's got everything, and it's also Amithlon! Hehe! Well amithlon style anyway, I wonder how much hardware is supported with the HD Install... And also which emulator its using? (Will it have JIT etc?)
I really fancy upgrading though, I can get the Plus edition for £26 GBP so I may upgrade from 2005... Last edited by DBAlex on 31-May-2008 at 08:34 AM.

No because I'm pretty sure you can only BOOT from KXLight in 2005, I've booted from it though and its pretty cool... But yeah it would be great to actually install AF to your HD as a bootable partitition...
I wonder if it could be made a primary OS to replace Windows, for an Amithlon type solution? Or does it need another OS to be installed?

| I had the privilege of reviewing a pre-release version of AF2008 for an "Amiga Future" article, but the final release version promises to be ever better. Well done Cloanto.
My upgrade order has just been placed.

| Been waiting for this, well done to all involved. This is the first Amiga related product I have bought in over two years! shocking but true.
One thing i would like to ask Cloanto to do next is provide legitimate download service for adf games and programs, some free and some maybe have a small charge if they have to pay rights to have them on the site. That would be great, also os4.0 support? Last edited by amigang on 31-May-2008 at 04:59 PM.

It uses E-UAE - the latest build - with JIT. So yes, it is fast. As for hardware support: the latest Linux kernel together with the latest Knoppix hardware detection. Basically, it's totally up-to-date!
Hard disk installation: yep, check out http://www.amigaforever.com/kxlight/installation/
There are two modes: one copies the CD contents to HD, so it runs almost identically to the CD version (ie. the Linux portion is read-only); the other carries out a proper full installation and can be tweaked to suit individual hardware. Installation can be to an entire HD or just to a partition. You can dual-boot very easily, but if you have another primary OS, you'll need to manually add KX Light to the list of options in the bootloader.
I'm sure the KX Light pages at amigaforever.com will expand quite rapidly with further information and instructions over the next few weeks.

| Wow, I've waited for soooo long for KXLight HD-installation possibility !
I am actually thinking about installing this on my main pc and on my second one as well... Is it possible to remove the pre-installed AmigaOS and install your own OS 3.1/3.9 with your own CDFS, TCP/IP-stack etc ?
The one drawback I can think of is proper web-support ! |
