Software News   Software News : AmiArcadia 7.5a released
   posted by Minuous on 31-Jul-2008 12:41:30 (3608 reads)
AmiArcadia 7.5a has been released. Since Aminet has some issues at the moment, you will need to grab it from the official site: http://amigan.1emu.net/

WinArcadia 7.5 (Windows): 31 July 2008
AmiArcadia 7.5a (AmigaOS 3): 1 August 2008
AmiArcadia 7.5a (AmigaOS 4): 4 August 2008
AmiArcadia 4.81 (MorphOS): 3 March 2008

AmiArcadia and WinArcadia emulate these Signetics-based machines:

* Emerson Arcadia 2001 console family (Bandai, Emerson, Grandstand, Intervision, Leisure-Vision, Leonardo, MPT-03, Ormatu, Palladium, Poppy, Robdajet, Tele-Fever, Tempest, Tryom, Tunix, etc.) (1982);

* Interton VC 4000 console family (Acetronic, Fountain, Interton, Prinztronic, Rowtron, Voltmace, Waddington, etc.) (c. 1978);

* Elektor TV Games Computer (1979); and

* PIPBUG-based machines (such as the Electronics Australia 77up2 and the Signetics Adaptable Board Computer) (c. 1977).

Features: ReAction GUI load/save snapshots windowed and full-screen modes CPU tracing trainer drag and drop support graphics scaling automatic load/save of configuration/game keyboard/joystick/gamepad/paddle/mouse/trackball support autofire warp mode gameplay recording/playback PAL/NTSC modes sprite demultiplexing help windows source code debugger frame skipping redefinable keys save screenshots ARexx port network play real-time monitor locale support game selection sidebar text-to-speech undithering support for ZIPped games

AmiArcadia has been covermounted on Amiga Future (Germany), and has made the Aminet Top Ten, and is the most downloaded emulator on Aminet. The supported languages are currently English, French, German and Italian. AmiArcadia and WinArcadia were each awarded ratings of 5 stars by emuita.it. WinArcadia 1.63 was recommended by NonMESS as the best emulator of these machines: "WinArcadia is the clear winner. For one, the Arcadia 2001's sound is much more clearly reproduced and is actually in tune with this emulator, compared to its competition. Second, WinArcadia gets credit for its use of the standard windowing GUI, which aside from other benefits allows for drag-and-drop support. Finally, I've run side-by-side tests of just about every game available for the system...highly accurate. Check this one out. WinArcadia is far more advanced than the MESS driver, with near-perfect emulation and tons of support for extras like save-state and graphics scaling. Definitely worth a look."

Requires (AmigaOS 3.x version): OS3.5+.
Recommended (AmigaOS 3.x version): OS4/MorphOS, RTG.
Changes since 7.5: Bug fixes (AmiArcadia only).

Hopefully updates to the OS4 and MorphOS ports will happen soon.

I'm not against updating the OS4 port but as I had almost no feedback from previous ports I supposed that there was no interest in it. It's the same with the Koules OS4 port.

@abalaban:

Looking at the Aminet and OS4Depot stats, I see 571 downloads of the OS4 version in 3 months, so that seems fairly popular for an OS4 program. Also, anyone who downloaded it from your website won't be counted in those figures, so the real number is higher than that.

Also, having a port such as this does help OS4 to get a bit more coverage in the mainstream emulation community, since Ami/WinArcadia releases are tracked closely by all major emulation news sites.

@all:

Aminet seems fine now, and the program has appeared there.

@abalaban

I'm interested for example

Aniway would be nice if you can update the OS4 native version almost to the latest 7.5a, from 7.0b there are a LOT of fixes and improvement, really !

@Minuous

Problem with this stats is that since some time now search engines started to index lha archives this somehow tricks the real stat numbers... (for example my own website got over 1100 hits by Yahoo! Slurp !!). As for my own website there was : 8 downloads in May, 23 in June and 10 in July.
Also as we have not much things to test during the summer, many people just download everything that gets out just to give it one try. But anyway as there is at least one person (samo) interested in it I'll do an update, but I'm currently preparing the house for my coming first child so I have very little time to spare currently.

PS: Oh and last time I tried the 68k version wasn't working under OS4 on A1 (I guess it's because of the anologic joystick part).

Of course, and congratulations

Yes. Maybe I should add some kind of switch to disable them. There were some other bugs (eg. ReAction-related bugs) which have been since been fixed which might have also been causing problems.

Regards

James

Thank you very much, time is near now (scheduled for August, 21th) so I should really hurry

I'll retest your latest 68k version on my A1/OS4, however please note that it could very well work under OS4 for Classic as required hardware is present, I don't know as I don't have it...

PS: I looked at the diff, I think I'll release an update soon (maybe this night)

Okay that's done, updated OS4 ports of AmiArcadia and Koules are both on Os4Depot and on my website.

@Minuous :

yes of cours, I just did not do it yet becaue I was in hurry and the online upload form is currently down on Aminet, as a consequence I should check that the os4 readme is correct before uploading.

EDIT: can someone also modify the news, so the OS4 version is updated to 7.5a ?

@Alexandre:

OK, thanks, I will upload them now.

I don't think it's possible for me to edit the news item, I'm afraid a moderator will have to do that for us

It seems to be packed using lh6 compression, latest Amiga LhA can handle these but LZX, UNIX LhA, WinRAR etc. cannot.
I unpacked and repacked the archive for the Aminet release, so please try the version from Aminet, it should be fine.
