Software News   Software News : OWB 2.9 released with Cairo support
posted by Giovanni on 15-Sep-2008 9:52:05 (6095 reads)
A new version of OWB has been released by Jörg on his web site. One of the biggest changes is no doubt the support for OS 4.1 Cairo library for rendering instead of SDL, which enables among other things SVG support in OWB.

Furthermore version 2.9 has been merged with the SVN revision 486. It requires Amiga OS 4.1 now.

Grab it from here (Jörg's site)

Or here (OS4 depot).

Any chance of a screenshot for those of us without A1's and thus OS4.1-less..?

Thanks for the newest version. I'm waiting for my OS4.1 package.
I'll keep using OWB version 2.8 in the meantime.

Awesome! (even though I'm stuck with OS4 classic until hardware comes along!)

Whoever's first/last to check it out, maybe consider posting a quick review/video etc of how this version compares to the last? ;-D

Steve

So does using Cairo speed things up?

@DBAlex

They are builtin. Probably the picture is from an old OWB version.
Voodoo what the f*. You have info for owb2.9 and use old picture ?
(alo alo di siii)

To not be so lazy i did a fast screenshot of my system. Amistart looks little off but there is a problem with rendering amistart on os4.1.

So is OS4.1 *required* by OWB now, or is it optional?

Well, yes and no.

OWB2.9 requires cairo, and the version of cairo available on OS4Depot is too old and doesn't support/provide the functions required. Joerg has said that if someone could port a more upto date version of cairo, he would use it to provide an OS4.0 version of OWB.
So to answer you question, specifically no, but practically yes.

It says 'required'. At the moment, that is.

Since classics can't run OS4.1 could someone upload OWB 2.8 to Aminet?
