Hardware News   Hardware News : Minimig Enclosure Black Edition Released
posted by TheDaddy on 27-Sep-2008 21:22:06 (7952 reads)
Hi everyone,

I am happy to announce the release of the new enclosure for the Minimig; the Black Edition. I have produced the Black Edition one because many people have wished, through the years, they had a black Amiga.

Photos and Video

For just the video
(put the volume up and enjoy, a bit self indulging but it was nice to add some of your comments)

I have already started taking orders, some of you, like Rob, should have it already.
Email me if you are interested: amigarulez@hotmail.com

Thank you to all the people who have bought it and already given it funny names like:
Minimig Ninja or Minimig Darth Vader

(It looks cool and menacing at the same time)

Going back to working on the Natami/SAM case now...

Thank you.

The biggest downfall of this whole thing is that it is an Amiga 500 remake! THAT IS A MAJOR reason why I am not even going to spend a single dime on it. I am waiting patiently for Natami and ones I save up money I am getting me OS 4.1. I am not wasting money on this, even though it is a good toy...but that is what it is...a toy!

What would you like to see in a A500 case? The Minimig board? And why would you want to do that?

Have you got one? Have you used one?
Yes it is the remake of an A500 so what?

No actually the Minimig is a major improvement over the A500:
It's 12x12 cm get a tape measure and draw 12x12 cm on a piece of paper- a lot smaller and lighter than an A500

It is made of NEW, good quality components
It has PS/2 ports
It has an inbuilt scandoubler - straight to a CRT or TFT screen
It has SD Card support - 500 games on 1GB SD Card
It has STANDARD Audio/Headphone output

>> I am not wasting money on this, even though it is a good toy...but that is what it is...a toy!

If this is a toy then the A500 is a toy. Also why on earth are you posting about the Minimig board when this is about my hard work on my enclosure?
Some people...

Hadn't really considered getting a Minimig because I have an A1200 and didn't see much point at the min.
After looking at those pictures and seeing just how small and portable it is, I'm defintitely having second thoughts.
They do look good in those cases as well.

As said above, brand new board so it should have a decent life expectancy fits a load of games on a small card and easy to carry around.
Go back to the days when my Miggy used to be ferried around to mates houses for Sensible Soccer tournaments.
Wouldn't be doing that with my A1200 these days as it in a tower with a whole load of other things.
The weight and fragility of it all would be too much.

I don't see what's wrong with it being "just a toy"
I work hard, I deserve toys.
I have tons of games on my A1200 and have no problem with that.
Not everything has to be functional or educational.

About the sam case, did I read somewhere that you are looking to do a wedge shape with built in keyboard?
I would love to see that.

@TheDaddy
The problem with your news item is that it does not give a cost, nor tell you how to buy it. You need to make it as easy for potential buyers as possible.

(Does it cost £10 or £100? Does someone PM you, email you, go to some web site, find it on AmigaKit, etc?)

@Foody

The minimig is not perfect but it is the first new classic Amiga since Commodore went bankrupt. And as my ageing Commodore Amiga's are now breaking quite often due to age its nice to have a real hardware replacement (I have had 2 A1200 motherboards fail on me in the last year).

A minimig is no replacement yet for my high specification A1200 Tower with BlizzardPPC or my other one with a Blizzard 040/40 but it plays Lotus 1, 2 and 3 perfectly and as well as most of my other favourite A500 games.

I am hoping that the combination of a minmig to play old games and a SAM with a copy of OS4 will replace my A1200 PPC setup and meet both my requirement to play old games and run OS legal software like ImageFX4 fast, with the added bonus of the minimig being small and light and easy to take round to friends.

Now I just need make sure I have the money for a SAM + OS4 and a shiny minimig case, I had previously said that the case was just to expensive and I still think its a bit more than I should be spending but it dose look stunning so I think I will just have to work out what other stuff I dont really need and spend the saving on one

>>They do look good in those cases as well.

Thanks.

>>I don't see what's wrong with it being "just a toy" I work hard, I deserve toys.

That is one of the strongest statements I have read in ages! It might end up in my next video! Brilliant!

>>About the sam case, did I read somewhere that you are looking to do a wedge shape with built in keyboard? I would love to see that.

I would love to show it but until I have raised enough money to make it into CAD and then a very costly prototype, I don't feel it makes much sense to show sketches which might not materialize. I need to get my development costs for the Minimig enclosure back before I can move forward with this.

Thank you

I don't want to drag this into Minimig vs A500/600 thread but I would just like to remind that Jakub's latest firmware has nearly 100% compatibility with the Amigas mentioned above plus many other improvements.

For me if the Minimig can play the following (and it does) all on 1GB SD Card:

Speedball 2
Lotus Turbo Challenge 2
Cannon Fodder 1&2
S.W.O.S. 96-97
Dune
It came from the Desert
The Chaos Engine 1 and 2
International Karate+
Pang!
Hybris
Kick Off 1&2
Jimmy White's W. Snooker
Gods
Pinball Dreams
Pinball Fantasies
Advantage Tennis
Flashback
Fire and Ice
Superfrog
Another World
B.C. Kid
Defender Of The Crown
F16
Megaball
Deliverance
Crazy Cars III
Myth
Bubba 'n' Stix
James Pond 1&2
Alien Breed Special Edition
Alien Breed Tower Assault
Final Fight
Agony
Overdrive
Battle Chess
Marble Madness
Baby Jo...
Spy vs Spy
Space Quest
First Samurai
Full Contact
Project X SE
Shadow of The Beast III
Sonic
Body Blows
Battle Squadron
Stardust
Stormlord
S.W.I.V.
Switchblade
Super Skidmarks
Super Hang-On
Stunt Car Racer
S.T.U.N. Runner
Armour-Geddon
Arkanoid
UGH!
Lionheart
Turrican II
Simcity
Pirates
Wings
Last Ninja 2
Great Giana Sisters
Walker
Tetris
New Year Lemmings 1992
Nitro
Desert Strike
Skidmarks
F1GP
Super Star Dust
Prince of Persia
Zool 2
Zool
Zaxxon
Xenon II Megablast
Wonder Dog
Woody
Utopia
Torvak
Worms
Turrican 1
R-Type
Supercars II
Deluxe Galaga
Indy 500
Little Computer People
Wolfchild
Tin Toy
Team Suzuki
Uridium 2
The Simpsons - Bart vs The Space...
Garfield
Paperboy
Test Drive
Workbench 1.3
Deluxe Galaga
1943 Arkanoid
Cadaver
Deluxe Pacman
Heimdall2
Jaguar
Fire&Ice
Addams Family
Settlers
and someone has told me that Octamed works (imagine that on 1GB SD Card and hundreds of samples!)...

then I think it's a great, little machine, and as classic Amiga game console is superb.

I've got access to and know how to use Pro/ENGINEER and have some 10 years experience as a mechanical engineer (3D-CAD, automotive and medical-systems). So I'd be glad to put it into CAD for you at no cost (would cost some time as it should be done in spare-time).

@ all

I think they look great. And with any luck you should be able to buy them at the MAG UK event as TheDaddy has showed interest in exhibiting. Considering he only lives a few miles away too, it will be great to have a range of things happening.

@ TheDaddy

I think that they look great. I think the system is great too and with all the modern additions to the system (compared to the original A500) it's worth the cost. It seems like a great way to bring back good old fashioned multiplayer gaming, Bring it on!

They do look gorgeous. Definitely prefer the Dark edition.

Have you posted these enclosures up on mini-itx ?

Apart from games are there any applications that can work on the Minimig?

Deluxe paint and others.

I like the compact nature of the Minimig but would like to purchase the complete package (Minimig in case).

Just like to wish you good luck for any future projects.
