At this point, I took a closer look at my video card and found out it was not seated correctly. After some fiddling around I managed to get the card to push in even further.
That is the most common mistake made by people who try to install an AGP card for the first time. It sometimes takes a second "click" to seat all the way down. I see this happen on the PC all the time. Nice journal, btw.
