Software News   Software News : Sylpheed 2.6.0 for AmiCygnix released
   posted by CygnusEd on 13-Apr-2009 12:45:52 (2904 reads)
A release of Sylpheed 2.6.0 is now available on OS4-Depot. Sylpheed is based on the
GTK+ GUI toolkit. The appearance and interface are similar to some popular e-mail clients
for Windows, such as Outlook Express and Becky!.

Why another mailer? Because Sylpheed hat a very good support of the IMAP4
protocol, which isn't available in other amiga mailers so far. But Sylpheed
also supports other interesting features.

Read more...

Supported protocols:
* POP3 / APOP
* IMAP4rev1
* SMTP / SMTP AUTH
* NNTP (News)
* SSL / TLSv1 (POP3, SMTP, IMAP4rev1, NNTP)

Features:
* multiple accounts
* thread display
* News reader
* printing
* address book
* template
* powerful filtering
* powerful search

Seems to work, I've received and sent emails! Looks good, but sluggish as expected, but for those fed up of waiting for YAM to get into this century, it's workable.

@ChrisH

If it has this feature, it is not mentioned in the docs:

@CygnusEd

He said SimpleMail not YAM.

SimpleMail does have some IMAP support unlike YAM but IIRC it's not very good. At least last time I tried I had trouble making it access my e-mail account. For now I use webmail interface with OWB when I need to access my e-mail from one of my Amigas.

Sort of. No subfolders. A pity. Sylpheed rocks though. Multiple accounts is great. I use it with 2 IMAP accounts + 2 gmail accounts via IMAP.
Already for something like 1.5 years. Very effective.
The only drawback is that speller can be invoked via "external editor" feature only ( and gvim as an external editor).

@salass00

Oh no, I can't read You're right.

@jack

I've tried to port gtkspell some time ago without success. I will try it again, when I'm in the right mood

@salass00
For some reason people seem to forget that SimpleMail exists, and think YAM is the only option, even though SimpleMail is really good & usually rock-solid.
