Very interesting interview. I always thought we were lucky to still have Toni coding WinUAE, now I know we are

@AmiKit
I never really saw the point of PPC emu in WinUAE anyway, as running OS4/MorphOS does not need Amiga chipset emu (which is the main reason for WinUAE), so better to do PPC emu entirely separately & have a much much much simpler coding task.

a shame is he bashing os 4.x
iff you want to use pc then use pc iff you want amiga use amiga dont use an emolator,

even iff it world have been cool with jit in euae. for backwards compatibly.i relly want to play napalm in high resalution, i could only play it with low res.on my 040/25mhz-bvision,
well lets hope the best for the futhur of os 4.x and #### the rest ...

* How do you feel about the legalities surrounding the emulation of the Amiga ?

Totally idiotic. I guess "Only Amiga makes it possible"... At least 1.x ROM images should be free.

200% agree...

I didn't see any bashing of OS4, MOS or AROS in there. I saw him stating that for him, emulation of the Amiga meant staying with classic Amigas, and by classic Amigas, he meant anything from the original Amiga line of machines, and not including a PPC processor - as he classed that as new hardware that he had no interest in supporting at all ever.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in using the emulator at all. In fact as it happens, I have only been able to get some demos and games to work under emulation simply because the refuse to work with my real hardware. Also, you cannot guarantee that your hardware will keep running - and it gets more and more difficult to replace parts that fail, or expensive to fix bits that need fixing. Now the emulation is not perfect, but it is very good at what it does right now. It has allowed some people to even code again for the Amiga in the absence of real hardware which had wither died or been sold on years ago.

And for comparison, you can actually play Napalm on WinUAE at maximum resolution at a decent speed - probably better than on your 040/25 equipped Amiga. Even my 040/25 A4000 couldn't play it that well until it was given a graphics card and an 060/50.

Considering WinUAE is an unpaid labor of love for Toni,Amiga fans should be grateful he gives talent and time to the community.

THANK YOU, TONI WILLEN for all your work on WinUAE!!!!

So if he doesn't want to code PPC then there is opportunity for someone else to stop griping and code PPC themselves,IF they can!
For someone wanting bit of fame,maybe they should concentrate on MacUAE that works as well as WinUAE,or MacOS version of AmigaForever that installs and runs as simply and easily as Win version.Many Macs out there are already in hands of Amigans.Or maybe write Amiga PPC emulator that runs on old Mac PPC .
If I understand legalities,anyone can write code to make old Apple computer run emulators as long as he has licensed copy of Amiga or other emulated platform ROMS.
If people can write Ubuntu and other variants for PPC Macs,then must be only lack of talented people having interest to write high quality Amiga emulator.
