News   News : Bounty for E-UAE GUI opened!
   posted by Cyborg on 11-Aug-2009 11:33:41 (2371 reads)
On AmigaOS4 and the new hardware many old games and applications can only be ran via E-UAE.

Unfortunately the file based configuration of E-UAE is in no way userfriendly nor easy, which prevents a lot users from using it.
Thus this bounty shall result in an easy-to-use GUI for E-UAE on AmigaOS4. Very much like the well known GUI of WinUAE.

So to anyone who likes playing classic games even on AmigaOS4+ in an easy way: please support this bounty with a small donation!

That good, but, in generall, UAE already usable by the GLUAE (i can run any old game/demo just by double click).

The main problem with uae on os4 at moment:
- it's slow with many demos/games
- it's emulate amiga chipsets bad. Like the first WinUae versions (6-7 years ago).

I just noticed the same bug on the latest uae on os4, which i catch when i first time try winuae (the same 6-7 years ago). I just run Technologicl Death, it works, but halt on the middle of the demo.

Related to os4 version of uae, it's also slow with some demos and games even on my 1gz cpu. For sure it can be fixable, and optimized. and for sure i will spend money for bounty, which will be "Make UAE works better on os4". Whic mean making it working faster, and more progressive chipset emulation. Maybe it possible got some help from the WinUae author ?

But gui can be good for some ppls too i think ..

ps. link in news are broken.

I don't think intregrating the GUI into UAE is a really good idea, some launch-app would off the same functionality and it would be easier to maintain ONE E-UAE-build for all platforms.

AROS-UAE allready has a GUI thanks the GTK-MUI, yes I know it *evil* MUI *evil* but a proper GTK-port(wrapper) would also have other benefits.

I would prefer JIT-PPC first before a GUI (donated to this one BTW).

tuning E-UAE is just a question of reading the doc but of course it is easier/faster to have a dedicatd GUI rather than opening/saving the .conf file all the time !

@kas1e
Yes, I'd like to see the ancient E-UAE port for OS4 updated to actually work, e.g. enabling sound makes the whole machine very unstable, especially after you quit E-UAE.

A GUI for E-UAE is a great idea!!! In fact, if I ever get enough free time to start programming for the Amiga, this would be one of the first things I'd do.

A wrapper script is not as good because you can't change the options whilst it is running.

I would suggest (please don't hate me!) that a MUI GUI would be good. Not because MUI is better in any way, but because then we can share code between AmigaOS, MorphOS and AROS. And I think that would be a good thing.

The project has just been assigned (144,58 euros at time of writing in two days !).

But i think it's strange that the JIT bounty is just 182,48 Euros (in two month !), i think it's more important

Yes, I too think that a standalone prefs editor/launcher would be a better solution: easier to write and easier to maintain.

I think making the program more usable is most important. Speed doesn't matter much if you can't use it. I plan to contribute as soon as I'm convinced this is a legitimate project. The programmer has to be enthusiastic about the Amiga and have time to do it. I've gotten cautious about contributing to projects.

@Thinkchip

Both usability and speed is important in UAE, what is done first doesn't really matter IMHO.

The bounty has been assigned to Cyborg (OS4 developer and Amigabounty.net member) who is very enthusiastic about OS4, so there is nothing to fear about that.

Hopefully he will be able to show more about what he's working on soon.
