Software News   Software News : MCC TextEditor 15.29
posted by zerohero on 24-Aug-2009 10:26:18 (3208 reads)
TextEditor.mcc is a multiline string gadget which offers most of the common features you can find in a typical text editor, but embedded in a MUI custom class. It is used by a wide range of well-known MUI based applications like YAM or SimpleMail as the main text editing gadget. Its main features are:

- Text can be colored (limited syntax highlighting)
- WYSIWYG for bold, italic and underline soft styles
- Multi-level undo & redo
- Lines with different alignments (left, right, centered)
- Ability to insert thick or thin separators with an optional title
- Easy marking either using the mouse or keyboard
- Full clipboard support, offering very fast cut & paste routines
- Light text highlighting for e-mail based on an opening ">" character
- Support for external spellcheckers, including type'n'spell and word
guessing
- Configurable keys, colors, cursor types, blink speed, and much more
- Ability to have a bitmap as a background
- Support for proportional fonts with floating word wrap, as well as
antialiased fonts
- Pixel smooth scrolling
- AREXX interface for scripted programming

TextEditor is available for AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, MorphOS and AROS.

First of all, thanks for the hard work.

Unfortunately, this release seems to be very crashy: while editing a half-page long email (in YAM on AOS4), it crashed something like 5 times. Undo doesn't work correctly (sometimes cuts/pastes random text, maybe even at random positions).
I'm in a hurry, so I can't say more now, sorry.

This is great news !

Small gadgets like this, may seem not as important as a full application, but when it come to writing applications, these small gadgets help with rapid application devlopment - which is seriously needed.

Well done for your hard work, and hitting the vital bases, specially AREXX for automation.

That's not good. Sounds like nothing has changed.

I did some editing eariler and the bug where the editing text is the same colour as the quoted text is still there. Unless that is YAM. It annoys me, half the time I can't see what I'm typimg!

Please mention this on the YAM list, I have been banging on about this one for years to no avail.

NewsRog and Simple Mail both use the Texteditor.mcc and whatever version used , they work properly when quoting texts yet YAM doesn't.

The thing is the very early versions of YAM did do it properly too. I guess it is YAM rather than texteditor which seems to get the blame despite other applications managing NOT to mangle the text colour when typing.

Bill.
