Software News   Software News : BOH updated and ported to AROS
   posted by saimo on 12-Oct-2009 8:13:05 (2932 reads)
Campobasso, Italy - October 12th, 2009

Today BOH lands also on AROS and, in doing so, it also improves further!

Specifically, this update:
* makes the game run natively on AROS (requires an x86 CPU);
* optimizes and improves the field of vision calculation;
* optimizes and improves the lights casting;
* makes some explosive objects cause chain explosions;
* fixes a few minor bugs;
* adds a new mission;
* improves/extends the manuals;
* applies some other changes.

The update can be downloaded for free from the DOWNLOADS page of the official website. The demos have been updated to reflect the changes.

About BOH:

BOH is an original, retro-flavoured game of exploration and action. You move in claustrophobic, traps-packed, mind-boggling battlefields searching for the Evil Masters, who throw countless enemies at you until you discover and face them in the final battle. Although your quests are made slightly less hard by the bonuses and power-ups scattered all around, carrying out the missions demands lots of concentration and quick reflexes. With BOH the fun never ends: new missions can be added anytime and you can even create your own! And, as if that was not enough, you can also customize entirely its audio-visual aspect!
BOH has been created with lots of passion and care to offer, with its oldschool style, a fascinatingly different videogaming experience.

@kas1e

I haven't followed those threads, but BOH is not a generic application: it's a game that interacts with the OS only minimally, so it hardly is a good example in the context you're talking about.

@Saimo
So, then solution for the game developers to use SDL or whatever else you use :) I only pointed that apps can be done for all the amiga/like oses with no problems. For example i am for 'vague' diskmag use warp3d, ahi, ptplay.libraryes, intuition, gadgets, etc. And that all works on all platfroms. Jahc's examples are good too (sabre, wookie). And your game, still, show to developers the same example (generall one)

@kas1e

Ah, sure, all software can be made portable. The point is how much it costs: since BOH interacts little with the OS, it's easier than porting other kinds of applications (of course, BOH has been written to be portable right from the start, which makes things a lot easier) - this is all I wanted to say.

@saimo
Related to morphos version: i know you don't have mos machine, etc. But what about making morphos version by vbcc (quite easy), and then give for ppls to try ? (i can test everythink what you need on my mos2.3/peg2). Imho you will only need setup vbcc, and just do vc +morphos game_files_blablal. I before making os4/mos utils with having by hands only os3. OF course it's a bit suck that you can't test it himself after compiling, but, still, one more version and support of all amiga like oses :)

@kas1e

I'm setting it up to get it to compile my own framework. I'm not promising anything. I'll keep you posted.
EDIT: sorry, forget it: way too many headaches.

Yes: just insert the CD and launch the installer.
