A lot of interesting stuff there. A lot of people were saying that Fleecy would try to get round Q3 - his answer, although it wasn't what I'd hoped it would be, was at least very honest.

Got nuffin to read this Sunday, Now :o(

Good Answers to "inflammable" questions.

On the Video front ... i was gonna send an Email to MainConcept to ask if they are considering porting MainActor to AmigaOne/Os4.

But Fleecy made a good point... Better to wait for the release of os4...

Still .. MainActor has been released for Linux x86 (iirc) ............... >>Thinking<<

Excellent, especially as it is early!!

I like the straightforward answers - I was eager to find out whether there was DVB card (satellite/digital TV) support for OS4 and the answer is simply "no".

Now I not onl want such a card for my new Amiga but I think such a card with embedded MPEG2 would be a definite bonus for the OS.

The drivers for these cards are nearly all GNU public licence, hopefully someone out there can adapt this to the Amiga after it is released.

What would be nice is that the dedicated MPEG2chips could also be used for DVD playing. Any takers?

My hope is that given the virtues of Amiga and the revamped OS4 and new hardware the Amiga could gain a sizable new market as a home enterntainment box.

It all boils down to what programmers within the community have the ability to provide soon after the release - drivers for the cards above and the US version would certainly help.

Very good questions asked this week, and very good
answering as well. Felt honest.

I find it interesting that audio developing is continuing for
the DE. This is one of the features meantioned by fleecy a
long time ago, and it's interesting to hear its at least not
dropped.

I was pleased to see what seems like an honest answer to
the auction thing and that it indeed isn't on the behalf of
AInc. Whereas it would be superficially interesting to know
more about the background as to why the landlord is
pursuing a sale-out, it's at least "officially" explained. You
cannot expect AInc to give exact numbers as to their
financial situation. Let's just accept fleecy's answer and
weigh it however we wish. The fact remains - they are not
bancrupt - whether you want to put a "...yet" or not after
that sentence is at the moment only a matter of your
personal opinion.

As someone interested in the DE - development (albeit as a
non-developer myself), I feel I already knew the answer to
question 4, based on previous comments. That said, it's
good to see that AInc seem to have plenty of freedom to
tweak intent the way they want.

The Genesi/AInc qustions are as always potential
flammable material, but they were handled good. Fleecy's
take hasn't changed since the famous days of "The
employee sending incomprehensible e-mails in the name of
Bill Buck" days. It's interesting to read that Genesi
would receive the same deal given to "anybody else" - I
assume this would include the deal accepted by Eyetech.
Many have suggested quite the opposite in the fora (that
Eyetech was given some sweet, special deal whereas
Genesi was handed the sour grapes). I can only agree
though that there is no (business)- reason for AInc to
somehow ditch Genesi with a poor deal. If Eyetech
accepted the terms and Genesi didn't (or presented a
proposal AInc in turn couldn't accept), then it's just
business. Nothing sinister going on. It's just the way the
world goes. And Mr.Buck has really said they are not
interested in licensing the Amiga trademark - and AOS is a
inseparable part of that trademark people, whether you like
it or not - so the discussion is moot anyway.

I would believe the AA SDK 2.0 was delayed for several other reasons
than awaiting the intent 1.4... v2 were due
out a loong time ago (as was everything else). Oh well.
Does anyone know what is supposedly going to change in
intent 1.4 as compared to the current version? Only
bugfixes, or some new features that AA is awaiting in order
to be more usable?

As for question 8, I think Ainc could do a lot worse than
taking note of the Amizilla effort. A token donation from
AInc would be excellent PR, not to mention a very cheap
investment for something as important as a port of Mozilla
and the effect it would have on their platform. (Not to say
AInc shouldn't make an effort to bring other applications
here as well of course!)

Other than that, I look forward to seeing the default theme
of AOS4. My old suggestion of letting the community vote
themselves on a pre-set range of themes presented by the
developers weren't paid much heed, so let's just hope they
know what they are doing. The look might well be
configurable in extreme, but the default theme is still what
is going to be the "official" view on AOS4, what will appear
in newspapers screenshots, reviews and on
demo-machines all over the world.

It is actually continuing for OS4.x (x > 0) which is even better.

Hi,

Actually I got a sick feeling after reading a topic about this on ann. I know I should not be there,
And even Ray got the full load. It shows, no matter what you say it is never good enough. Like the auction, people still say your broke even when Fleecy stated it is not. And then the slashing of AmigaDE. Let's face it, for some people it does not matter what you say or do, they just want to bring down Amiga Inc.

Hi there hnl_dk. I do hang around at amiga.org but did not had much to post or reply too. But often I drop by in the chatroom of org. Zudo even said it is maybe time to bring the A-team back to live. To kick some butt.

Finally! You found out what is under the bucket! Man that took so long for someone to find out but you hit the jackpot. I was this close to blow the cover myself. Good work!

@Bill McEwen/Coder

Rumours will shortly be going around on ANN about you escaping to Thailand

@hnl_dk

Wasn't it obvious? That bucket's the latest AmigaDE driven device. The whole DE philosophy - fill once, pour anywhere

Possibly off topic but there has been some discussion on Sound - Video - Tuners, etc .....

I'd alway thought ISA and PCI Cards only had a short form factor until I acquired an ex-Telsra HP NetServer 4d/66 LM (upgraded by a 100MHz cpu) and examined the Full Length expansion cards installed!!!

The Amiga was served proud by its Full Length Zorro Cards that often were described as Combo-cards; ie. they could include several functions!

It was common for an Accellerator to have (as well as a faster CPU) RAM Expansion, SCSI Addaptor, and even sometimes a vertical HDD mounting option on the board. Others has a 32Bit Pass-through port or High Speed Serial connector!

Then there was the famous GVP TBC-Plus where the plusses were many!!!

° Now - since the original A1 Motherboards showing a SIX-Slot expansion bus were replaced in the actual production series by THREE-33MHz Slots + ONE-66MHz Slot and an AGP Slot - - - -

Does anyone know whether PCI Cards are available with Combination Factilities such as (for example) SCSI + Firewire or TV-Tuner + Transcoder + Genlocking or PCMCIA + MMC + CF plug-in?

(This is so a first-generation A1 can offer its owner the sort of flexibility that could be expected of a post-Y2K Amiga!)

There are pci cards with both USB and firewire connections on it. But I am not sure if that is what you mean.
