Software News   Software News : E-UAE GUI Beta released
   posted by marko on 29-Nov-2009 0:23:56 (3840 reads)
Hello my friends!

First, sorry that I missed the promised deadline. There came that much things in the way that I didn't have really time to work on E-UAE GUI ..
Anyway, it really is not far from being finished, so I packed up the current development version for you to try out as public beta.

The archive can be found in the Project files section and contains only the uae and make_hdf executables.

Please note that this is also the very latest version of E-UAE as available in the official CVS and that it is not yet compiled with the latest GCC/binutils which might cause it to not work as fast as possible on Sam boards.
Also note that I fixed the well known AHI crash, but for some reason my system freezes soon after starting E-UAE the second time (with and without GUI, so this is probably yet another bug in E-UAE itself).

Of course as soon as I find the time I'll try to finish it off.

Have fun (hopefully :) )!

/Cyborg

This is great stuff! UAE gains a whole new dimension with something like this. With a few improvements, this will be an essential tool, since I always thought UAE's text configurations were a pain to use.

Thanks!!!!

Many thanks. Unfortunately for me, it crashes when I attempt to save a new configuration?

Good work.

The HDF maker is a blessing also.

Good to see a new version of EUAE. It looks intergrated into the GUI. No way!

The A1 version is quite buggy on the Sam. On my friends it can be perfect one time and another just keeps crashing. I also hope the filesystem big is fixed where it keeps stealing a drive name and directory and assumes it's Workbench even though you tell it what to boot to off! And the other filesystem relatted crashes. I get the feeling the UAE filesystem haandling code is buggy. Don't know if it's PPC only related.

Needless to say that the configuration saving works here. Anyway, I noted it on the bug list.

Please remember: I'm only responsible for the GUI! And not for the rest of E-UAE! If there is something easy to fix, I'll do it. But I will not dive any deeper into E-UAE as that. Thats the job of the E-UAE maintainer and really, I have enough on my desk already, so I can't tackle yet another big project like E-UAE.

Any screenshots? Hope you implemented the F12 key. That simplifies things a lot.

@marko
m3x did his own recompile of E-UAE v0.8.29 for the Sam. It has no GUI, but it DOES seem to have fixed the "unstable after quitting" bug you get if sound is enabled. Your version still had that bug...

EDIT: SORRY, I was wrong. Old version not unstable or crashing now either, maybe due to new firmware? But it IS basically same speed as old version, so at least there is not reason why the GUI version should be slow.

@ChrisH

Again (as with 1941), I'm not the author, only the messenger

I think this and the other 1941 news are worth as news items but were never posted as such yet, until now, in case you wonder.

Cyborg is the coder of this GUI.

EDIT: should be 1941
