Software News   Software News : SabreMSN 0.60 - Basic file transfers support
   posted by jahc on 1-Dec-2009 9:27:44 (3609 reads)
This release is dedicated to Mick from irc.amigaworld.net #amigaworld. He single handedly hammered the correct values into my binary headers, corrected the replys, INVITE messages and decoding, etc. MSN coding is hard. Try his console based Amiga client AmiMSN for a preview of what SabreMSN will support next year :)

I had freezes under AROS with my final testing when receiving messages, and with both sending and receiving of files, but I've uploaded the newer version anyway for people to try.. I will investigate further later.

I havent implemented a more handsome GUI yet for the file transfers. I'm still using the old style GUI from last year. Once I have my structures and variables moved into linked lists, and have the ID's being processed properly for each transfer, and corrected many other little things that are currently wrong with this release, then I will implement a better GUI. Also, avatars should come fast once this is all in place too.

CHANGELOG
=========
2009-12-01: Alpha 60
- File transfers! Pretty alpha. Lots to do. One send and receive at a time until I move
everything into linked lists, and process the ID's properly for individual transfers.
A few bugs here and there. Doesnt work with aMSN. Very alpha. Had to get something out
there though, because it mostly works. For now, everything downloads straight to RAM:
- User is typing notifications seemed broken somehow. Needed an extra \r\n at the end of
the "typing notification" message.
- Usernames are often being displayed wrongly, i.e., the email address instead of the
display name. Microsoft were evil and changed bits of MSN again. Investigating..
- Changed the incoming buffer to a ring buffer, which made it easy to process Payload
messages no matter the circumstances, so the odd random incoming message shouldnt be
missed anymore now.. Yay!

Cool. Now is it safe to upgrade to it? I don't want to update again and find it doesn't work properly so forced to backgrade again.

@smf

Avatars are sent using the file transfer protocol, except it's just done automatically. Isn't hard to implement once file transfers are complete. I'd expect the updates to be quicker than this last one (note: I can't talk for jahc.. this is just personal opinion).

Long waiting :) Just installed and time to do some filesending :) Thanks both Jahc and Mick.

I tested it some and it works both sending and receiving with 2 msn friends on windows. Reaaaaaaaly slow filetransfer but thats as it goes thru a switchboard. But the good thing it works sending/receiving.

Of course not. It's never safe. :) Seriously, the software is often seeing major changes.. thats why I keep the old versions on my site.

Just spent a couple hours research. The websites that used to have information on Direct Connections don't exist anymore, and the Wayback machine hasn't archive the pages I needed.

I'm pretty sure i've reverse engineered it all.. Sometime in the next week when I have a few hours to myself, i'll try to stick direct transfers in AmiMSN.

WLM uses uPnP which we don't have (perhaps there's some uPnP client I can compile?). So that means manual port forwarding for us.

MickJT:
I think there is some command line tool for uPnP on os4depot today. Nice to hear you are going to implement direct transfers :)

@Kicko

Hasn't this happened before.. Can't remember. Whether there was another time you point something out, and it's something I put there.

I compiled that uPnP client and uploaded it. You only had to read the .readme :)
