| Thanks Hyperion for the update.
I have DiskLED docky installed, It's set up to show activity on all my drives plus internet activity. I start a dl with OWB, watch the net light, when it goes out along with the disk light, I know the dl is done. Not a good solution, but better then nothing.

| @Kas1e Strange. I never ever had problems with dl stuff from the Hyperion site. Everything - even the big Update 1 - came down to my machine in the very first attempt - and fast (considering my slow 1,2 mbit connection here..., used OWB, Opera, IE7). _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000

| @cha05e90 As far as i remember with update1 all was ok. But with that one these problems.. Its very possible was because of my connection, or by any other reasson, but "resuming" support imho are must .
But that all not so matter :) Better to have os updates, than site updates (in compare). _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites

I would argue though, that this particular user was frustrated, and not your regular troll. _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power

Why did the garbage get appended and why after the copmplaints from the first update was the error still there. |
Because, and that might come as a surprise, I didn't get any complaints. I read on the forums some place that the download didn't work with IBrowse, but nobody complained to me directly. Since half of those that complained on the forum call me an idiots and the other half got the file via OWB, I deemed it not necessary to waste my time on this specific problem, more so since the whole site doesn't work correctly with IBrowse.
If you want to know, I added the message that apparently garbles the download because of complaints from IBrowse users that the web site doesn't work with IBrowse. A few people had used the form for registering the wrong way (Ibrowse doesn't know how to hide elements) so this message was needed.
I appreciate the fact that IBrowse is the most responsive browser on the Amiga (although I think that OWB is very fast for what it does), but let's face it, CSS has been around since more than 10 years. It's a shame IBrowse is no longer updated, but unfortunately the rest of the world isn't affected by that.
Say again, I did not receive a single complaint about the problem that you are turning into a big issue. Which, for me, clearly shows that my attention is better directed elsewhere. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

OK I ignored the previous post about bad language but the use of the word idiot is hardly bad language. If this word has suddenly become a swear word I was unaware of it and we are really living in a sad nanny state! |
Idiot: –noun 1. an utterly foolish or senseless person. 2. Psychology. a person of the lowest order in a former classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.
(from dictionary.com)
Yes you overreacted, classifying me as an utterly foolish or senseless person, or someone that has an IQ of under 25. If that is nothing personal, then I am really an idiot, but I don't think I am. Yes, it is personal, I took it personal, at least have the balls to admit it. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

If I don't hear about issues with the web site, I won't fix them. Saying you don't want to annoy me doesn't make sense.
I am not aware of any problems with the web site. If you have connection problems, I can check the log files if you can tell me exactly when and from where you tried connecting.

But, 100% downloading procedure on hyperion site suck. And dunnno why there all these problems , which in general, as BillE say, never happenes everythere in the net. |
Sorry, but that is nonsense. Sending files as an attachment is a totally normal way of handling downloads, and is done like that on half a million sites. It's weird, though, that I never ever hear about these supposed problems, which leads me to believe that these problems aren't a big issue.
Again, if you have any trouble, I appreciate hearing about them before someone else feels the need to call me an idiot. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

Yet you replied to BillE when update 1 was released, about this very issue. Here's a link to your post (post #14).
Granted you said to not use IBrowse, but saying you didn't receive any complaints isn't completely true, IMO. _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power

Just a guess, since I've never communicated with Rogue. . .
He is probably referring to a direct email contact or a reply through a contact form on the website, which would ask for a specific problem to be fixed, with a "bug-report" style description of what steps led to the problem, what software, etc.
While BillE certainly gave some of that information in his post re: update 1, it shouldn't be expected that a reference in a news/discussion forum will get the same attention as a bug report directly to the maintainer.

edit: I wish I was home instead of writing from work on this stupid XP machine. I look forward to installing the update when I get home!Last edited by Paul on 30-Apr-2010 at 11:29 PM.

Yes, I know, but that entire thread is about the problem of downloading update 1 with IBrowse, and Rogue at least read BillE's post about it, and he probably read the thread title.
I'm not saying Rogue is lying, I think he just didn't make a note of the problem, and forgot about it after that thread... _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power

It sounds like the root cause here is not all web browsers being equally good at downloading large files. Would it help perhaps if the update files were served by ftp? There are quite a few very stable ftp clients for OS4, while the same can't be said for web browsers. In the download web page you can put ftp:// urls that both IE and Firefox understand for ppl who download at work. |
