Awesome. I've been waiting for this release!

I hope to release an "sdl engine" of sorts in the next week for Icaros. Icaros already has gnu and sdl set up so it's perfect for what I want to put out there.

Basically trying to throw something together to make it so you can easily draw graphics, txt, and audio to a window through sdl combined with lots of basic examples.


I'm going for the fellow idiot coder like me that didn't know where to start. I don't think it will have any collision detection or anything so fancy, but at least a place for people to start and go "look I drew a picture on a screen and made it move" kind of thing.


I think a lot of time people are interested in testing out programming for the "Amiga", but it sometimes the hardest part of programming is getting a tool chain together and finding really really really dumbed down examples and tutorials.


Thanks for the release I plan to do lots of playing around with it!!

Your download page says the current version is 1.2.2 but downloadable file is http://www.icarosdesktop.com/icarosfiles/IcarosLive_1_2_0.7z.exe (1.2.0). Are sure you've uploaded the correct version ? Or why that kind of file name ?

Good job in gfx card driver development. Now if you all could spend more time making Wanderer better (at least on par with Amiga Workbench). And making it compatible with the latest Grub (Ubuntu 10.4).

You have to download the update DVD. It can be used on its own.

And what's wrong with it? The current version of Icaros Desktop is 1.2.2: the point release is 1.2.0 and the latest update is 1.2.0 to 1.2.2.

1.2.2 is just a update for 1.2.0 and 1.2.1. So, if you want to have the whole package with all the bells and whistles, you need to install 1.2.0 before and then update it to 1.2.2 with the latest update.

Alternatively, since the 1.2.2 update already includes everything you need and maybe more, you can download JUST the update and use it on its own. It's the first time a Icaros update boots by itself, bit this time it's needed for two reasons: allowing straight installation to USB pendrives and updating GRUB menu.

Could you mention that on your download page also, please, thank you. When can we expect to get instructions how to install it onto a USB pen drive ? Or does the installer handle it automatically already ?

No, I won't repeat everywhere on the site the same things. The download page is just a download page, people are supposed to READ what's written in news, press releases and announce page on the site. I can't do anything with people not reading.

The right procedure to install on a USB pendrive will be published soon, as soon as I get the time to write it and publish on a PDF page (that will be downloadable as 'addendum' to the official PDF manual of Icaros).

Updates are the same for ALL Icaors versions, so you can install 1.2.2 to upgrade a Live, Light or VE installation. In this case, you can download the update ONLY, burn it to a DVD and install it standalone wherever you like. I wonder how many times I have already written this and how many times I will need to repeat them.

Going to have to give this a whirl on my Netbook. Linux distros are just to sluggish on it - hope it works!

Once upon a long ago there wasn't the download central page, and people cried they wanted a place to download everything without having to look into different pages to get older updates and so on. Now there is the page for downloads only, and people cry they cannot get a clue if they read two different links like "download version 1.2.0" and "download 1.2.2 update". Not complaining just trying to keep the peace. For me it was just a little confusing as well.

I read the article which clearly said, "This update is quite different from the others: it can be used stand-alone, like AROS nightly builds or Icaros "point releases"

I think I was thrown a little on the download page under Update it says, "The system must be already installed on the hard drive. "

Having read the news story I knew this release was an exception as stated, but I still did a double take.

I did manage to use my own brain to figure it out, so i dont personally have a complaint about it
