Hardware News   Hardware News : Introducing the new AresOne
posted by phoenixkonsole on 13-Jul-2010 20:04:59 (3475 reads)
Some time has passed and i thought about broadening the Amiga market.....
on my Agenda is:
A new scalable AresOne (from dual-core to 6-core) as AROS workstation (especial AudioEvolution )
AMC as you know already
App-browser (for MOS/AmigaOS and AROS) -> merge all three small markets to one less small (the ground to attract "new" developers)
and more but still secret

The new AresOne is smaller faster... not a workhorse but a work pony.
It has still enough room for a optional Catweazel and a Wifi Card.
The base-system comes with an ATI HD4200 (HDMI/DVI,VGA)
You may ask: "huhh? ATI not Nvidia?? yeahh stay tuned
BUT it supports also hybrid crossfireX and you could add any PCIe card you like.
It supports up to 16GB DDR2 1066 but also up to 8GB DDR2 1200(O.C)
More in the video and even more on the show at the Amiga Event 2010 in Essen.
6x USB (external) 6x internal..... this makes opens the door to Touchscreen and Remote support for a perfect MediaCenter solution.

With the HDMI output it is ideally for AMC which comes bundled with it.
Other bundled software:
A-liveX (FryingPan key, latest Cinnamon Writer)
Broadway / IcAROS (which is part of A-liveX-physical disc pack)

This time you will be able to choose...... i hope you find a configuration which fits your needs.

You have to try it.... whoever can visit us in Essen.

Just as Info about the Ares Project..... i started it to support AROS.... all profits i gain go back to AROS funding and more projects.... yeeeaaahh ok ok a little bit will be used to minimize the personal loss

The Introduction video: Youtube

Regarding the song: i liked the game and "gods" theme fits to Ares

Well we speak often about our plans and so on but indirectly we are also working together... he works with all engergy on ATOM based systems and i go for powerfull things... and AMC works on Imica too... as Broadway does...
This saves time and ressources and we both have the same overall goal -> supoorting AROS..... yeah and i'm always proclaming that x86 is the future (and trust me i have a tear in my eye but the ppc train reaches the dead end). Did someone read the Haynie Interview in the latest AmigaFuture??? He is sure that they would use x86 today... just a side note.

"Did someone read the Haynie Interview in the latest AmigaFuture???"

Very nice interview! Good comments also Linux & Windows defects/handicaps regarding I/O handling etc... (AmigaOS3 still does some tiny bits better!)

"He is sure that they would use x86 today... just a side note."

Yes but the CPU options might be a bit different anyway, if Medhi Ali had not born.

IIRC Amiga5000 would have had two HPPA RISC processors. One handling the 3D acceleration in Hombre chip set and the other running the OS+SW (&68k emu).
Also HP was hoping to be able to sell Hombre as 3D accelerated GFX card for PC world. It could have changed a lot. Or CBM would have died with PA RISC. Or the chip that CBM Amigas would be using might be still pretty good alternatives to x86.

But surely. CBM Amiga engineers would not have used PPC today, when the top of the line x86 chips are ~10x faster.

btw. I wish Hazy could be more active in our community...
also, he might have nice ideas also for the dolphin-Amiga thingy...

The best way to merge all 3 platforms is to make a common scripting language but make the language able to execute native binaries where extra speed is required.

give the language full system access but have it be interpretted (or JIT...or either/both)

Hollywood looks like the closest thing to this.

If all apps were written in Hollywood, they would run on all platforms.

see AMC....
wait for appbrowser
..... you are right ; )

well you need to have build for each OS. If you work right , you can achieve this with C too
