| @ChrisH I must commend your focus on user friendliness. First RunInUAe and then a version of PortableE aimed at beginners. Might even tempt me... | @DAX In the past there have been a surprising number of beginners interested in PortablE. Sadly I was still working on making PortablE good enough for experienced AmigaE/AmigaOS programmers, so I couldn't do too much for them. But with that mostly done, I was able to look at making it more beginner friendly.
I've always wanted PortablE to be really simple to use, because *I* like simple things (why make it more complicated than it needs to be?). This release of PortablE now brings it close to the kind of programming language I always wanted! And beginners also like simple things, so it's not much of a stretch to try to accommodate beginners too. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. PortablE already makes GUI apps! I just haven't shown any examples of that YET
Actually, technically that's a lie, since I released beta versions of PictureAlbum, and that had a GUI... I just didn't explain that it was (mostly) written using PortablE's new modules.Last edited by ChrisH on 08-Feb-2011 at 07:12 PM.

| @scabit PortablE comes with the documentation in AmigaGuide, HTML & plain text formats
No PDF version for the moment, because it was too much of a pain to maintain. Maybe in the future I can automatically generate a PDF.
P.S. The AmigaGuide version does not work properly in AROS, due to an old (and sadly unfixed) word-wrapping bug in AROS. Last edited by ChrisH on 12-Feb-2011 at 12:15 PM. Last edited by ChrisH on 12-Feb-2011 at 12:14 PM.

| I have now released an UPDATED preview of PortablE. You can download it from PortablE's homepage. The changes include:
1. Fixed MakeFractalBitmap() to handle red colours above $7F (such as RGB_RED & RGB_ORANGE).
2. Fixed the graphics module to not crash on MorphOS when you change screens.
3. Updated the installer for AmigaOS4, so that it (offers to) install the necessary GCC includes.
4. Minor changes to the documentation. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue...

| I have now released an UPDATED preview of PortablE. You can download it from PortablE's homepage.
The only change is that PEGCC should no-longer fail with the error message "Failed to strip executable" on AmigaOS4 when you have the source code folder open in Filer, DOpus4, etc. (If a similar problem exists on other OSes, then this will fix it too.) _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. | I have uploaded a new PortablE preview. The most important change is that reading & writing of files now works using the 'std/cPath' module. (Thanks to "mrdarek" for reporting the problem!) _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue...
