Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : Amigaworld.net has moved
   posted by tomazkid on 20-Apr-2011 0:58:01 (6591 reads)
Amigaworld.net will switch to a new ISP, and will move to a new location and a new server.

When?
Today April 20.
Time: 16:00 UTC.
some time conversions:
17:00 in UK, 18:00 CET, 02:00 April 21 in Sydney Australia, 12:00 in New York America, 09:00 in Los Angeles America, 21:30 in Calcutta India.

Estimated time:
As long as it takes to move the database.
Today it took 15 minutes, all went well.

Important!
You should not post after 15:30 UTC, unless you see a green banner instead of the current red one, that says:

" Notice! Amigaworld.net has now migrated to its new home. Please report any bugs to the staff. Thank you! "

Otherwise posts, PMs, and other submittable stuff might get lost.

Other issues to consider
DNS propagation might take some time.
We will have an alternative address ready and spread the info when it is time.

You might need to fill in username and password to log in, those will be the same as you have now.

What are the reasons for the move if I may ask? Is it cheaper, faster? Just being nosey.

Main reasons: it is cheaper, and the current ISP has not been reliable enough.

To what country does it move to, or will it stay in France?

Countdown started.

Everything posted on the site with a red banner, is facing the risk of being erased.

@tomakid

Good job with the move and notification. We did not do this when we moved Amiga.org to new servers and had the magical mystery disappearing posts problem for a few days. The way you did it is much better. This community needs a team of great websites to help it grow. AW.net is part of that team.

A big thank you goes to Sibbi for all the hard work he did to make the site work on the latest php and for the seamless migration

@Templario

Not all the optimizations are in-place yet, once they are the site should be faster than when it was on the old server, our new server has a much better cpu and more memory.
