Software News   Software News : Update of Gimp 2.4.7 for AmiCygnix released
posted by CygnusEd on 13-May-2011 5:15:52 (3204 reads)
An update for the AmiCygnix version of Gimp is now available on OS4-depot.

Gimp is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image
composition and image authoring.

This is new in this update:
  • Support for python plug-ins.

  • A new plug-in named "print" which prints an image using the GTK+ API.

  • With the included python package you can also run external python programs,
which depend on the python GUI module "pyGTK".

  • Some bugs in the AmiCygnix code for plug-in support were fixed.

  • Please read the documentation (README) for more informations!

Great news! While I'd always prefer a fully native Amiga program, I'd have to say I'm impressed by the usability of these AmiCygnix programs. At times they're a tad sluggish but overall they're a pleasent alternative.

    Thanks for the update

    About the mpiva post:

It's too bad that It's not possible to have better speed on SAM 667 to 800mhz computers but for me, with just enough speed, a fully native version become obsolete

Maybe with the special RTG.library, from Acube (maybe released with next AOS update), amigygnix programs will become more faster.

I'm really curious about that, M3X (If you read this post)

    @ all

In the current archive the installer script is buggy. I've fixed the bug and I'm uploading a new archive right now...

If AmiCygnix use only the CPU to transfer graphics on the gfx board, there is no way a new rtg.library could help, but if AmiCygnix may be modified to use at least WritePixelArray then it will benefit of some speed-up.
