| Have now properly launched myself into the world of AROS...
The last time I looked at AROS was probably about 2 or 3 years ago (well it was before network support anyway and the A still stood for AMIGA)
Icaros seemed like a good place to start...
Since I'm not a Virtual Machine fan I dug out an old(ish) 1.5GHz P4 motherboard and CPU (usefully with supported AC97 audio onboard :D), an RTL8169 network card, a Geforce FX5500 and case, PSU, HDD, DVD drives, etc...
I've not done much more except install, configure, update and play a bit of Quake... (Downloading cube and assault cube as I type this)
I must say I'm quite impressed with the progress AROS has made in that time and the Icaros distro comes with a lot of handy tools as standard.. I'm glad I decided to have a look.
I'm developing a game for the iPhone at the moment and simultaneously doing a PC version... If I can get my noggin around AROS I'll probably do a version for that as well... (MOS will probably eventually get a version and there WILL be an OS4 version if I ever get my hands on some hardware as my A1 went the way of the dodo :( bad times, lol)
Anyway, back to the main point I was making.... Good work to all those involved in AROS and Icaros... Keep it up :) _________________ Back to action!

| Hi BinoX, I'm happy you like Icaros. Good luck with your developments, I hope to see your game ported to AROS as well, in the meanwhile feel free to ask for anything you need here. We will do our best. |

| I just installed the update but it fails to boot past the screemode selection. There is an oop.library missing error. As a remedy, I tried copying the "cd:boot/#?.gz" contents to the hd sys:boot/ from the Icaros Desktop Light CD and the pc-i386-boot-iso from the Nightly build , with no result. _________________ Ordell Robbie: Is she dead, yes or no? | Same in here Cass. Even after formatting my main AROS partition and installing Icaros from scratch with no update gives me the same error againg. I have no clue what is going on... |

That's really strange. It didn't happen on any of the PC (physical and virtual) I use for testing. You should try booting from the Icaros CD and deleting all GZ files in the boot drawer of your hard drive, and then replacing them. I've noticed that sometimes wanderer doesn't actually overwrite files when you drag and drop them to a crowded destination.
Don't use files from the latest nightly, they can introduce a bug.
If you wish to roll back to your original Icaros 1.3 installation, don't forget to copy the whole Libs and Devs drawers as well. The best way to do this is using the copy command from the shell
copy "Aros live CD:Libs" TO aros:Libs ALL FOOVR NOPRO copy "Aros live CD:Devs" TO aros:Devs ALL FOOVR NOPRO |

This is NOT possible, unless you haven't actually formatted the partition and rewritten its contents. Please try again and follow all InstallAROS windows carefully. |

| I tried to delete and copy over the boot contents, no luck. Then I even copied the libs & devs directories, but still the same. When I added the boot/grub contents it crashed before the screen selection screen. I've installed over from the CD (no format, just partition selection & overwriting) and I got a crippled version (missing apps), so I`m getting now the Live DVD for a complete install over the old one. _________________ Ordell Robbie: Is she dead, yes or no? | Well, I was very happy with the way that Icaros performed on my old faithful P4... So I decided that I needed to buy parts and build a better spec machine anyway lol ;)
Was running: P4 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Geforce 5500 AGP, Intel AC97 Audio, RTL8139 PCI network card
Now running: Core2Duo 2.93GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Intel HD Audio, RTL8169 and some kind of PCI-Express geforce once my friend finds it (Hopefully it'll be supported and do 3D)
So far it runs OK... Audio and Network up and running... Unfortunately the onboard graphics (Intel GMA3100 going by the label on the box [VEN: 8086, PID: 29C2]) don't seem to be supported native and VESA modes don't want to boot (not even the 1024x768@60 option) so hopefully the gfx card will be found SOON (unless someone has a solution to my gfx woes ;) lol) Last edited by BinoX on 29-Jun-2011 at 08:41 PM.

| GMA3100 is somehow doomed (it's a shame it doesn't support VESA standards correctly, Intel is not a unknown company from the forgotten lands). Some variants work with Icaros 1.3, but not all of them. And yes BinoX, with a system like yours, a supported GeForce card seems mandatory to me, it would be a pity not having 3D acceleration with similar system specs! Please choose right (a GeForce 7, 8 or 9), more modern ones can give troubles. |

That's quite normal. boot/grub contents must not be overwritten, but installed using InstallAROS (just choose the "install BootLoader" option ONLY). |

How did you format the partition, exactly? |
