| Very nice, hope to see a stable version soon,
.. and hopefully even an Amiga style menu, i think they are pretty possible as Alfkil did for his QT port _________________ BACK FOR THE FUTURE

| Nice, but there's more...
Title: New rendering code for Timberwolf 4.0
Screenshot: http://www.amigabounty.net/attachments/project/44/tw4.0.png
Text: As you can see from the screenshot I just uploaded, the new rendering code is in place and seems to work pretty well. Interaction is still somewhat limited since most of the event handling code (keyboard and mouse, redraw based on invalidation etc) is not yet implemented, but the rendering code itself works correctly.
The new implementation is also much more efficient and smaller, it is now only 60 % of the original code size and has the possibility to be fully hardware accelerated (either through the built-in OpenGL layers manager once Mesa is available, or a custom layer manager based on the current compositing capabilities of AmigaOS 4.1).
Stay tuned for more updates and most likely a new test version pretty soon.

if they could use native menus and have mason work on a reaction-like set of widgets for the default chrome theme, it would look and feel like a normal amiga application.
i imagine, though, such works will be towards the end rather than the beginning.

Well I completely disagree on it, thinking about how to integrate it normally it's one of the first to think of
Look at QT, of course it have a proper menu now, but most part of the GUI continue to look too "alien" for AmigaOS, and even the hell sobj usage doesn't help too mutch for now, but this is another story ...
Aniway i believe that our Friedens bros can do a nice work here, look at Firefox on MacOS, The browser of the Mozilla foundation seems able to change its gadget and even its menu disposition
We will see aniway, crossing finger as always _________________ BACK FOR THE FUTURE

Yes, but this can be "healed" - I already looked into this, but had no time to go deeper into this topic. Hint: It can be part of the core GUI library or a "plugin". I would prefer the first one, 'cos in this way someone could nail down a AmigaOS-lookalike standard theme for all Qt apps. So it's not lost at all... _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000

| Thanks for this update report. As more time passes we are getting closer to a highly anticipated stable product.

Yes, I was disappointed to see the GUI had those awful embedded menus, surely they can be got rid of and some real Amiga menus instead.
Now we have MUI-OWB, I am not really that excited about Timberwolf as much, unless it has a real Amiga GUI. |
