The only early adopters are going to be OS4 fans. There's no way someone new is going to join the club with those dues.

If everyone put their money toward the open-source solution instead... we could probably have an awesome little OS that would run on cheap hardware. Then AmigaKit could sell peripherals, cases and the like.

That's my 2 cent anyway.

I understand your point, and you may very well be proven correct. But that's the entire assertion being tested by A-EON and Acube. Clearly, some people believe you might be wrong, enough to make a considerable investment in pursuing what you essentially characterize as a dead-end. Sure it is a risky business. No one disagrees that this is a tough sell outside the AOS4 diehards..

Regardless, the winnings go to those resourceful and gutsy enough to place a bet.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.. But I'm not going to stand on the sidelines, protesting the absence of bargain basement pricing.. I'm betting too.. betting that we (the early adopters) can give the platform another chance under a more competent stewardship.

I may be wrong. I may be throwing good money after bad. I'm just flat willing to risk it! And will have no regrets either way. And I think most of us saving for or already invested in an X1000 or Sam4x0 will all echo these same sentiments.

Disappointed, yes, sour grapes, no. Ive been with the amiga since 1986, Ive spent my fair share of amiga money. Ive had many, many amiga systems (including os4 hardware) and still do now. I still actively develop for amiga platforms. Ive done some os4.x development as well. Heck, I even said this in this very thread, which you obviously didnt even read before you posted,

Long story short, Ive done more, and am capable of more than you ever did for the platform, or probably can. This sort of black/white thinking is doing the platform no favors. Its no secret the platform needs developers. This is the attitude you give new potentials? Not quite the rocket scientist are you?

Sorry if I dont share your evangalistic views, but Im not one to blindly follow something. Although if the normal tone of your posts is any indication you'll have problems with the multi-syllabic words and just think, "huh?".

Youre normally somewhat smarter than that I thought. That too is a load of crap. Not to mention that the "solution" is somewhat unclear. Available products are an option sure, but solution, hardly. The head in the sand approach wont progress he platform. "Problem" too is in te eye of the beholder. To many the available options are a problem.

@fishy_fis: dont engage yourself in this discussion too much, you are strting to sound emotional. and it is off topic, besides. i think your solution of choice: os3, amithlon and aros are a safe harbour for the time being, nothing invested there will be lost. and what will become of os4, who knows.. we will see.

Sure, I did get a little riled, hence the appearance of things being a bit emotional. This kinda of attitude is both irritating and stupid. Not to mention the response from wizzard_o was somewhat innacurate, which he'd have seen if he'd bothered to read what Id written before he responded.

I said my bit about OS4 hardware, and was happy to move on. Id have left it that, but couldnt help but to respond to the stupidity on display.

That said and done I'll leave this thread to its own devices. It takes two to argue, which makes Wizzard_o 1 person short.

I hate to burst your bubble I wasn't talking about you in particular...

But I am tired of tight-wads constantly moaning about 'The high cost of OS4 hardware' We have to start somewhere and the initial cost WILL be high.
FYI I managed to buy my Amiga One-C outright, I had to save up for my Sam and I still am for the X1000. Every time i upgrade i sell my older model so someone else gets a less expensive way to OS4, when i get an X1000 my SAM will be up for sale and someone will get a leg-up onto OS4.

It just P*sses me off that every time when ever we get news the cost of ownership comes up, usually by party's who have their own agenda promoting an x86 or Mac based OS.

I don't think anyone can disagree that the current cost of an Amiga OS4 based system is higher then a PC or some Macs. It's a fact. I'm happy to hear fishy_fis comments about the price. It tell us that there are still people who are passionate about the Amiga but the price of entry is too high. Let's look at it on the flip side, Amigakit posts updated pricing at it's currently level and no one cares at all. I'd must rather have a construstive debate with people who are willing to purchase OS4 systems but at a different price point then the alternative.

We all hope and pray that the folks running the Amiga OS4 show have heard these messages and are actively working on "cheaper" hardare. Who knows, maybe we will hear something from Steven Solie at Amiwest. At least we have will have a chance to ask the question in person (if you attend).

One last thing, to all the people who have bought the X1000 or a SAM, thank you. To all the people who have bought Amiga Software this year, thank you too. To all the people who are looking to spend money on Amiga related things, thank you. The more we spend on Amigas and Amiga related things, the more Amigas and Amiga related things we get. Let's not forget this.
