software OS4   software OS4 : A Christmas present: new RadeonHD driver (version 0.27)
   posted by m3x on 24-Dec-2011 14:45:01 (4529 reads)
Bassano del Grappa (Italy) - 24 Dec 2011

Dear customers,

It's Christmas time in Italy and in New Zealand. With the help of Hans de Ruiter, we're happy to release an updated RadeonHD driver (version 0.27) to all our AmigaOne500-Sam460 customers. The new driver offers these new features:

* DVI/HDMI output is now supported on Radeon HD 4000 series graphics cards (R700 series chipsets)
* Compositing supported on Radeon HD graphics cards (R600/R700 chipsets)
* RV770 (Radeon HD 4850) and mobility Radeon HD chipsets are now supported (fixed the GPU initialisation)
* Compositing now supports homogeneous texture coordinates with vertex arrays on all supported chipsets (useful for image warping)
* Eliminated the intermittent graphics glitches that could occur with R600/R700 chipsets (e.g., yellow screens, fill-rect failure on 8-bit screens
* Fixed a bug that could cause some screens misalignement
* With interrupts disabled, could get multiple "vertical syncs" in one VBlank period (could cause havoc with timing). FIXED
* Fixed a number of R500 (Radeon X1000 series) compositing bugs that caused various things to be rendered incorrectly (e.g., the intermittent dark/black separators and backgrounds in AmiDock)
* The mouse pointer now disappears when it's supposed to (i.e., MouseBlanker works, and SDL games no longer have two pointers)

All our customers should send an email to this address: info@acube-systems.com
with their name and board serial number (which can be found on a sticker on the motherboard). We'll need 2 days to process your request.

Please Note: our offices are closed until 27th of December

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Yes have tried that, still the same, I think it's the video driver that's the issue as nobody else is having the same problem, just need to know iif anyone elso with SAM460 fitted with HD4650 gfx card is experiencing the same problem!

I just installed the new driver. I'm on a Sam460ex with RadeonHD 4650. So far everything's working great. Compositing is wonderful and I have no troubles with either DvPlayer (version 0.76 DEMO) or muimplayer. However, it seems overlay hasn't been implemented yet so make sure you're not trying to use it.

@sicky

I have yet to see a working (at full speed) video player on my SAM 460 with the Radeon HD 4650... then again I only have one.. BigBuckBunny AVI 1080p.

MuiPlayer (cgx_wpa) - painfully slow - the p96 driver does nothing... oh and this program kinda lame... if I exit the window aka stop the video... the program closes!!!!
DvPlayer 0.65 Demo (i.e. the version that supports AVIs) - painfully slow
DvPlayer current version supplied with OS - doesn't support AVIs... if it did probably 'painfully slow'
Mplayer GUI with summer reloaded version - f.all happens
AMC Mplayer - Web Channel/Whatever - A full-screen grey window opens with no content and unescapable.. instead of being presented to a fixed width/height in AMC.

Am downloading a video at 720p as we speak (BigBuckBunny) to see if I get better results. I assume because we have no support for MiniGL any video playback is unfortunately slow. Or perhaps its something to do with this mystical 'no overlay support'.

EDIT: Perhaps am aiming too higher, even my Intel iMac can't handle 1080p (within YouTube) very well. But certainly more than 3-4 fps lol

@ djrikki

Its the "no overlay" .
Will be intersting to see how Hyperion chose to deal with video playback with OS 4.2 .
The textured video sounds interesting .
