PATA device? are these just IDE devices or is it something else, and why rename them, just confuse me.

But anyway, nice to see updates coming along. Would this be classed as Update 6? or just a simple patch, is update 6 planed, any news on Os4.2?

PATA does means IDE yes, PATA is often used these days to distinguish from SATA, you could argue it's unneeded but it does make things explictly clear that you are talking about Parallel ATA and serial ATA

PATA device?

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

By the way, UDMA is supported and is enabled by default.

Excellent news! I can't wait to be among the X1000 users, hopefully in a few weeks. Also looking forward to any future update that results in one or more free legacy PCI slots, because I have plans for those.

Although I would love to own an X1000, my currrent financials don't exactly allow me. This is good news to hear and, as I see it, an expansion of the X1000's capabillities.

However, twas this this sentence that stroke me:
Quote:
Customers can expect more AmigaOS updates for the X1000 to become available in the future.
So there is a future perceived for the X1000, OS-wise!

SB600chip has both SATA and PATA ports. Is only PATA used for now of the SB600?
Or was SB600 SATA+DMA already in use?

btw.
In the picture linked below one can see SB600 main features. PATA is described as PATA (two devices maximum) while SATA IDE is said just to be SATAII. And it will be nice to see benchmarks when x1000 will be able to use full SATA2 speed (+RAID).

There is currently a lot of resource being put into the AmigaOne X1000, so look forward to more promising updates and developments in the next few months.

The sb600ide driver will allow you to use older IDE drives, I'm using one for my backups without problems. The new sb600sata driver rocks with udma, try scsispeed before & after on a sata drive.

Nice update for OS on X1000, but my XE is lonely for updates too.

Well, maybe I'll get my X1000 in the next round.

@Moxee

XE er well what most companies call EOL now, but can always need some speed ups, I'm going to buy X1000 when I can, XE is too slow now for some stuff I use it for.

No doubt faster speed is good, but I want a lot more ram that this XE has.
